Default picking up 951, run at VIR and import

so on March 17 I flew to Norfolk Virginia (Virginia Beach) and finalized the purchase of my new 86 951 from renllister TRJ3. I had the car checked out by a PCA approved and rennlist friendly shop Raceworks. the leakdown and compression test showed almost perfect results. the car had hankook slicks on it so I arranged to have a brand new set of 17" RA1s installed (paid $500 to a friend of the owner) and brought back the slicks inside the car.
so I picked up the car, paid the seller (T. Roy) went to his office to purchase on line trip permit from virginia DMV, and then drove to VIR.
Participated in 2 days of de at Virginia International Raceway (full course) with Zone 2 pca. the seller is an instructor and he coached me on the track for the first day. all I can say is it is an awesome track, with 3 long straights, some high speed s turns, some technical sections and lots of runoff areas (except at the esses). fuil course is 3.25 miles and 18 turns. lots of really nice people and some awesome cars....tonnes of gt3s and rs's.
I did not know anybody at this event but made lots of new friends. If you have a chance this track is worth travelling to. Many famous racers consider this in their top 2 north american tracks. it is located 4 hours east of Virginia Beach just above the north carolina border.
Saturday afternoon I headed home and found a great route hwy 15 north to Hershey (slept in Carlisle PA) btw I don't recommend super 8 in Carlisle. sunday drove to buffalo and stayed at Sleep Inn, I recommend this hotel.
Monday am crossed the border, paid my 5% gst (the border guys thought I overpaid as his book said average for a 944 is $5k...he said I hate to be the bearer of bad news)my $100 ac tax (no tarriff as 25 years ol) and was on my way after 30 mins. drove home and put the car away before the snow on wednesday... took her out today with the new plates

forgot to mention the prevous owner spent $8k last winter changing out all rubber and gaskets and hoses in engine. the car also never saw rain before last owner who only had car for 1 1/2 years.
car had fresh brake flush, extra full set pagid yellows and had shop do the tech form for me. PPI with leakdown was $175. also picked up a case of brad penn oil for $5 per bottle.
also the car does not have a scratch on it or ding anywhere.
needless to say car runs awesome on the highway and on track
now have to prepare the other white 951 for sale

couple more details;
the process with us customs has changed that you don't need to fax the title anymore just email the vin number.
since it is 86 it does not require an etest but one license office told me it does and wouldn't register the car for me with out it; I questioned them and then after speaking with drive clean determined it was not necessary but driveclean said some of the license office don't know what they are doing, so after I insist they put it in the computer and the computer didn't ask for etest, they registered it.
the car is an 86 but the date of manufacture sticker was painted over, but the border said most 86s are built in 85 (not true for porsches) so no duty (25 years old). nice suprise.

Thanks guys.
Mark, that pic was taken in Virginia just south of the New York border. I have to retrace my route as it was really a great drive. From Hershey I cut west on some very nice roads and it was faster than the interstate as it was a more direct route. I forgot to mention this one mountain road that I took for 26 miles that was incredible, lots of turns and elevation changes and an empty road.

Congrats Danny....the car looks great. Will it be primarily for the track & do you need to do anything else to it?

also has Lindsay control arms,
updated late model rear axles, lsd, abs, clear front bra.
the car does not need anything but a good wash.
I am planning on using as track car and some daily driving (yes with the cup car suspension)
compared to my other 951: much stiffer and feels newer, much harder to get in and out of seats.
compared to my 993turbo; much stiffer, much less power...should be similar times at Mosport....this relieves the 993 from track duty wear and tear!
