Edmonton Road Course Coming
So it looks like Castrol Raceway is finally planning on completing a road course this year. Every year there are rumors but it looks like this is the year. I have not had final confirmation yet but will try for one soon.
If you look at the racetrack with Google Earth you can see the outline of the course to the right of the dragstrip I think.
I usually post on the US forum and don't see many members from the Edmonton area so trying to find out how many members are from around here and also if the course is of any interest to you guys.

So here is what's happening. I spoke with owners today and they are going ahead with the road course this spring (weather permitting).
The first phase of two phases will take about a month or so to complete and should be up and running for summer racing this year. It will be about 1.5 to 2 km and they will not be using the drag strip as the straightaway, instead they will build a separate straightaway. they are not using the dragstrip straightaway because it will eat up the track. Once the final design is completed it will be posted on their website.
The second phase will be spring next year and will be about the same size. Both tracks will be able to run separate events at the same time and for bigger events like Cascar the two tracks can be joined to make one big track.
I am not a racer and never have but really do enjoy watching and who knows, I just might take the plunge and join some of you guys out there so watch out, I drive flatout.

Thanks for the info, sounds very interesting. Wheel to wheel competition is nowhere in my future, but if there are time attack and lapping days, I'll take full advantage. Edmonton is starved for a full sized track in my opinion, they'll do well with it, especially once Race City closes.

From what I understand they will put on all kinds of events including lap days and time runs. The more participation from car clubs and groups, the more events.

Having said that they do hope to attract Cascar and Motorbike's.

This has been a rumour for a very long time, I'll believe it when it actually happens. Having a decent road coarse in Edmonton would be great for all the car clubs and track enthusiast, lets hope it gets done and we have a proper track close to home.
