You'll love the 996tt when you get it. I've had mine for a few months and it's a blast to drive. I use Brent at Huntermotorsport and he's very good with the 996tt platform. Good prices and he's a great guy to boot. Good luck with your search.

don't ever think of the HST factor of buying a US car being a negative one .. it has to be payed either way .. in fact HST is cheaper if the car i purchased in the US .... you pay on the US price converted not the Canadian price which would be more if you bought it here .

Buy in the US. For $50k you can get a lot of car. 05 S may be a stretch but you never know. Certainly you can get a low mileage 03 or 04 X50 for those dollars and I have personal experience to support this assertion. I've imported 3 cars from the US. Aside from me, there is lots of experience on this Board to help if you need it. Good luck. The search is half the fun.

I believe the Porsche Dealers charge $1250 to do the Warranty Clearance if i'm not mistaken. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... .

I picked up my 996 C4S in the States, and at the time, it was close to 1/2 price from Canadian prices.

This was in 2006, so now with the dollar at par, and the arrogance of Canadian manufacturers and
and general commerce refusing to acknowledge a 32% plus dollar drop, it is a good opportunity
to buy US.

As the matter of fact I did watch the US market closely for the last couple of months since we decided to get one however, prices on ebay and Porsche USA dot com doesn't seem that low with lower mileage cars.

I do saw some sold for under $40k USD but has more mileage than I really want such as this one with 78K miles 2001 sold for $36K USD but besides these two sources where else should I look?

It is not easy to make a car purchase on the internet without viewing it in person and what about PPI etc how you guys that bought in the States before handle all that?

Any tips will be very much appreciated!

If you're looking in the US and it's out of warranty, don't bother with the CDN dealers for recall clearance. Have a PPI done at the local Porsche dealership (will cost about $350, money well spent), ask them to provide a recall clearance letter as part of the PPI (they'll know what you're talking about), ask the seller for hi-res pics sent by email, and if all that looks good, pull the trigger. A PPI is MUCH more valuable than viewing the car in person, IMO. The average joe can only see cosmetics by viewing in person, which pics can show just as well. The PPI will include a test drive, which will check for things like slipping clutch, odd steering issues, etc. - basically, all the things you'd look for by test driving yourself. The only advantage to going in person is to test the paint with a gauge, which is how I buy cars, if at all possible. Of course, on a 7-9 year old car, a respray on the hood isn't uncommon, so it could be perfectly normal paintwork detected.

I have search the P-car usa and ebay the prices aren't that attractive, there might be some savings but by much consider the amount of work I have to put it.

Can you shed some light here?
