Default Fantino

So the paper this morning says Fantino will be in cabinet as early as January. Oh, joy. I had lunch with my mom yesterday, who's been involved in politics forever (she worked on campaigns at provincial and federal levels for decades when I was a kid) and she made a really good point. Harper doesn't tolerate any crap from his subordinates. Fantino has never been a subordinate. Those two are going to butt heads like crazy.

The scary side to this is that I'll bet Fantino's gunning for the top job. Harper's never been an overly loved and charismatic figures, even for tories, so ousting him wouldn't be that difficult. Could you image "Prime Minister Fantino"? Yikes.

Will never win a leadership race, not with heavyweights like McKay (who also won't win), Jason kenny (strong chance) and others all gunning for leadership of the party.

I'll wager a beer on it. McKay's missed his opportunity. Who's Jason Kenny? (not serious, but you get my point)

Fantino is controvercial at best in Eastern canada. Jason kenny is popular with the classic powerbase in the west. Unless Jim Prentice is running too, I would wager that Kenny is a legit chance at leadership and with a weakened and fractured left opposition he has more of a chance at the big job than he's given credit for.

Actually, this would be an interesting conversation to have in person, but I'm braking my own rule right now which is don't discuss politics on the interwebs.

Hah! Good rule. Check out Pelican's OT politics and religion and try to hold your tongue there

You don't think Fantino's law-and-order stance will be appealing to westerners?

Fantino won't have a chance to appeal to westerners. He's going to be too busy answering requests from his paesans in Woodbridge. I think the power players in the construction industry have put "one of their own" in Ottawa to make sure they get things done.

But I love a good conspiracy.

+1 DeAD-Eye. Fantino has reached his level of (in?) competence. Bet he is a good team player. He followed McQuinty's orders to look the other way when aboriginals committed crimes during the Caledon confrontation.....not to mention the illegal cigarette factories and chop shops on reserves.

Ford: "the war on the car is over"

It's one thing to support law and order and another to be a fascist.

Fantino directly said that he doesn't like the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Of course, he doesn't. It makes a lazy policeman's job that much harder.

But he will fit well with Harper's fantasy that we need more prisons because there is a lot of unreported crime. How do you fill those prisons if the crimes are unreported? I guess, if we tear up the Charter it would be easy.

What bugs me about the whole Fantino thing is that the Liberals tried to recruit him, too. So who am I supposed to vote for now? The Pot Party? It's not like I'll vote for the Bloc. That's like a Jew voting for the National Socialist party. If they get what they want they'd probably deport me and strip me of assets. NDP? They'll just strip me of assets but I guess they will try to pay me welfare after that.

Bloc Pot it is then. Or maybe the Pirate Party. The current system of copyrights doesn't make any sense.

No, I know plenty of people in Quebéc who are born and raised in the French language and who will not touch the Bloc with a 10 meter pole. I didn't say they Bloc actually represents the real wishes of all French speaking residents of Quebéc. I also think many people get misinformed about the real intentions of those parties. Plenty of Americans voted for George Bush. That doesn't make them horrible people. Even Hitler was able to convince a significant number of people to vote for him. (No, I am not equating Hitler with the Bloc or PQ, but the FLQ on the other hand....another story)

The Bloc and PQ agenda is often pushed by people who would love for me to disappear. Those people can suck it. Suck it long and hard. I ain't going anywhere. Jamais. Thankfully, this province is not defined by them and the people I deal with make it worthwhile to live here.

I'm glad to here that...
Just for you to know, I vote Bloc, my girlfriend is English, Japanese, and voting CP! I think that everybody in QC can live together whatever they vote, I'm the living proof!

No body would kick no body out of Quebec, even if the PQ would make the separation happen, we need everybody in this province to make things happen!!! good things I mean.

That's a profound conversation for our Rennlist forum! hehehe... Let's talk car, everyone agree with this one, Porsche's are the best. lol!
