Topping off tank for storage?

Ronnie, that stuff only has a 12 or 24 month shelf life (I can't remember which) IF it remains sealed. Once you open it up, it starts to deteriorate also.

i've never had problems with openned or old stabil.... Although I've had one bottle lose it's red tint to it (don't think I used that one as stabilizer)
A large bottle probably last me a few seasons of stabilizing - lawnmower, snowblower, snowmobile, bike, Pcar.
I pit a tad more in my trackbike when i winterized it in Sept 2007.... Ran fine when I got it out to sell in June 2009, after applying a lot of choke.... (and that's a carburated bike)
I bought a new to me Honda 1132 snowblower last year that needed some work. it had some gummed up gas in the carbs. The previous owner I don't think had stabilizer in it... ran pretty rough, but after a couple attempts at carb disassembly and cleaning, it runs fine now.
Found this FAQ on stabil brand fuel stabilizer... I assume the same info applies to CT brand stabilizer.

Only guessing but if there was a shelf life there'd be some notification on the label as it would likely enhance the company's sales/profits. I'm not really sure the stuff is that necessary for a 4 month sleep. I've stored the Z for 34 winters sans stabilizer with no problems. I'm just using it now in both cars to be one of the boys!

Ronnie, the bottle of Stabil I just bought has an expiry date on it. It's in the garage so I can't see it, but I think it was 2 years...

FYI, with CT generic stabil, it turns cloudy and eats away the bottle after a year. I never run into problems with the brand name stabil though. I would think it has something to do with the polycarbonate bottle CT uses.

I leave the tank about 1/4 full with Shell 91 and a bit of Stabil added. In the spring I head to the closest Shell (or Husky now) who has fresh 91 octane pure gas to fill up. Otherwise the old gas has to be run through or pumped out before fresh gas can be used. Plastic tank on my old 951 and on the Beepster ... and stored in a climate controlled building. I also change the oil before going into storage to drain out the crap and acids. And water that gets into the oil over storage is evaporated once the car gets warm. I let it idle for about 5 to 10 minutes before driving away. This way the water is removed and the batttery has a better charge.

As Jakk mentioned, as long as your car is in a warm garage all winter, there is less chance of condensation from occuring in your tank.

+1. Stabil will slow the degradation of your fuel but it will not prevent it. I'd rather have a few gallons of bad gas in my tank that I can mix up with fresh premium fuel in the spring than have a whole tank of it.

between 15-20km till empty on the computer read out that's about 5 liters or so.

So to summarize, seems many people handle a few months' storage many ways, and everyone's machines seems fine! Guess as someone said, 3-4 months is not that big a deal anyway.
