It's similar to a soldier who relenquishes his weapon while at war! What's wrong with these people?

What does the manufacturer of the torque wrench claim? There should be a certificate in the case or a % accuracy listed on their web site/catalog.

The Snap-On wrenches are made by Precision Instruments. You get the same quality at a slightly lower price.

One of my Snap-On wrenches is now 35 years old...it is still in spec and it has never needed repair or adjustment. There is very little point to using one if you do not trust it and you can only trust it with periodic calibration.

Mine's about 1% clockwise and 2% counter-clockwise. They recommend a recalibration every 5,000 uses, so that means mine will need to be done in 500 years!

Damn good torque wrench...its the "about" I'd be worried about.

What make and model is it?

I wouldn't worry too much about the percentile accuracy of wrench. Most people don't know or appreciate stretch on a bolt hence a uniform method of measure such as with even rudimentary wrenches is ok. There are areas in the motor though that require very accurate torqued fasteners.
