I didn't. But our friends daughter, who is now 20, became a Canadian Tae Kwan Do Champion at 16. I have seen her competition videos. I would not wanna be on the receiving end. One thing though: it affects the girl's posture and stance. Makes girls look more musculine.

Yes both my kids took Tae Kwan Do... the emphasis was originally on defence. As it turned out my daughter's competitive side came out, she was a black belt at 13, the lowest medal for sparring she earned was a silver in her first tournament followed up by 4 gold medals at major tournaments.
