If you have tires shipped from the US to Canada, pay duty and tax and then have them mounted yes the price is the same. If you have them shipped to a border city, get them mounted in the US and drive back it is cheaper.

agreed. allen's prices are close enough to prices of imported tires (+shipping+duty+moutning fees) that i don't mind giving my business to a local merchant.

Turbo Dan said it...you guys are fools to think that you are not saving money by buying your tires in the US. I have friends that are in the auto business and they ask me to buy them tires for the US cause it is even cheaper than what they can get for cost here in Cananda.
Go price out a pair of 285/30/18 PS2 and compare the price in the US...its double.

I've been pricing Blizzaks here and the U.S.
Tirerack - $738 US
Newmarket Tire and Mag - $876 Cdn
Mounting will cost at least $100.
It's a wash for me ...... I'll spend my money in Canada.

First of all there is no duties on tires coming across the border .. only tax which is 13% of which you pay on the US price converted so there is huge savings there alone ...
This is an eception I admit but I was just in Indy for work so while there i picked up 4 tires for the Audi . payed 403.00 for 4 205/55R16 BFG Super sport AS tires .. seamed like a good deal .. and I got an 80.00 visa cash card after as a rebate .. cool
seamed like a good deal to me .

Please be specific...what Blizzaks are you referring to.
A set of 225/265 18" LM60 cost $836 at tirerack...price them out here and let me know the difference.
The cheaper the tires the less saving if you buy from the US.

It's nice to hear you guys are getting good service from a local guy.
Don't forget about the board sponsors guys! We ship into Canada daily and use UPS as the shipper. Delivery is usually 3-5 days. Since The Tire Rack quotes all brokerage, freight, and duties at the time of the sale, when your product shows up to you do not have to pay any other fees. We always encourage our customers to shop around.

Thanks guys for making this issue oh so clear to me...lol
I'll need new tires in the spring and I guess I'll take away from this discussion the fact that I need to shop around before buying.

tires $836 (before tax and shipping)
shipping $120.68
hst $123.23
duty $58.52
provincial tire fee: $23.36
brokerage fee: $30
grand total $1,191.79 + mounting fee
add your mounting fee when you get them.
prices at a local tire shop:
$525 for 2 fronts

$1361.65 after tax i'm not sure if price includes mounting but believe it does.
the price difference is not as much as you think.
