ROAD TRIP
On Saturday April 24, 2010 a Porsche Swap Meet is held at Giant Center Parking Lot, HersheyPark, Hershey PA. This is without exaggeration the largest event of its kind on the planet. It typically brings nearly 650 vendors, around 1,000 Porsches, and over 6,000 visitors together in Hershey every year. (In 2003 the long-distance award went to a 968 driver from Albuquerque, NM. In 2009, we had visitors from England and Italy.)
If you’re seeking an obscure Porsche or an obscure part for your Porsche, this is your best chance to find it.
Every dealer and Porsche packrat in a 250-mile radius will be bringing their odds and ends for sale or swap. You’ll see exotic Porsches found nowhere this side of Stuttgart, and Porsche personalities ranging from PCA muckety-mucks to (sometimes) celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld.
I have never done it, but it sure sounds like fun.
I have once taken this route on a bike. HWY 219 is over 200 km of twisties in the most picturesque setting I have ever seen: along mountains, waterfalls and streams. I am talking about a turn every few hundreed feet (ans in some places less), elevation changes and little towns en route. Then on the way, we passed a Zippo Factory Museum. It was unforgetable. I would love to do it again, this time in a Porsche.
Just as a suggestion, we can get together at Tim Hortons/Sunoco at the Ontario St. exit in Beamsville on Friday morning. From there we can proceed to Zippo Factory and spend the day heading south, stopping for photo opportunities along 219. We are at Hershey (or close to it) by Fri evening. Go out to a local bar, maybe. Then spend Saturday at Swap Meet, leaving for Atlantic City around 5pm. Spend the night in Atlantic City, have breakfast on Sunday morning and head home.
We can make any changes to this route. We can skip Atlantic City, if thats too much for you. We can also leave Fri late afternoon (for those who have to work on Fri), take the quickest route down and then do 219 on the way back on Sunday. So, feel free to make any other route/itinerary suggestions, please. I would love to meet some fellow Rennlisters. I will be accompanied by my wife.
If you are wondering about the costs involved, I have found rooms available in Hershey for $55-75/night and in Atlantic City for $100-160/night.
So, what do you guys say?

I have been to Hershey Every year for the last 15 years or so ... even before it was at Hershey .. That route ( 219 ) is a scenic one and it will take you a while. If you get stuck behind a truck ( as it is a truck route ) passing can be very difficult in spots .. Sure is a nice drive down through elicotville though and I would recommend it for a leisurely road trip .
I will be going so will see you guys down there for sure if you go . Remember you are going throught the Pennsylvania Mountains and it can reain and fog quite heavily at times.
I always go for Breakfast at Bob Evens at about 6:00am on The Saturday Morning before the show in Hershey so a may see some of you there.
PS I have never broght the Porsche but there always lots of nice ones there.

Sounds fantastic, my buddy and I are planning to drive down, but no P-car for us
If you'd accept a non-Porsche (VW) into your convoy (and we can both get the Friday off work) we'd love to join up with you guys!

Finally
I was afraid I'd end up doing it alone.
I will be at Pfaff Tuning today and I will come out on Saturday GTG. We can discuss the trip details there. Or pm me if you are not able to make it to either one.
Cheers
