Default Panamera or MB G Class?

*obviously not for me*

I'm accompanying a v good friend of mine today, helping her decide
between a Panamera or G Class.

She (currently):
- is awesome ... lol
- has considerable track experience
- 1969 911T
- 997 Turbo

The vehicle WILL be a daily driver, here in Canada.
Her 997Turbo will not be in canada.

She has not excluded any version yet.

Panamera Turbo vs G55 AMG
starting $155K

Pamamera 4S vs G550 SUV
startiing $115-120K

I have my opinion, but what would you choose and why?

thanks!

Her line-up of cars obviously tells us what she will choose between the MB vs Porsche.
I'd say choose the Panamera 4S.
That way she craves the 997 TT, also in the same time save her 40K.
AWD in Canada is a must, unless you live in GVA.

Panamera 4S is fantastic, but Turbo Rulz. I believe a sportier exhaust will be available soon, and proper paddle shifters.

Take one for a test drive.

I say winter tires is a must....AWD is nice but not required.

I'd get a Panamera....newer and better driving dynamics. A G is a goat....great offroading but for city commuting, it's just sloppy.

Just keep her away from the coolant filler!

If she wanted to drive a big very nice, fancy kleenex box on wheels, I think she'd alreayd have one by now!

Panamera all the way - turbo perhaps?

I don't know, the Panamera's looks are starting to grow on me. Seeing the car in person makes a big difference, it's a handsome yet powerful looking car. I think of the BMW X6 in the same way. As for performance, I can't say anything from first hand experience but I would expect nothing less than the best from Porsche.

Looking at those two pictures, I don't know why there's any discussion. Sure, the Panamera isn't the most beautiful thing Porsche has designed, but that Benz is fugly. Pontiac Aztek fugly. Worse, maybe. The comparison to a kleenex box on wheels is quite apt.

@ Christian: lol aztek fugly...that's harsh, man. I likey that kleenex box!
@ Pongo&Ice: actually, thought about it...! The relationship is in it's embryonic
stage right now, so too soon to say if the fit is right
for barrington. There is a big difference
in lifestyles, and a titanic difference in tax brackets.
Also, she's pushing 6ft, and well, you've seen me... lol!

Last night she fell for the Panamera Turbo at DFC...****, so did I, but it's a
sizable ride, that one. She's test driving it today, and hopefull the G-class
soon thereafter so that she can decide. The panamera was in this crazy
wicked blue on cream interior...it was yum.

saw 1 on the street, right behind a new quattroporte- masserati), absolutely zero comparison in terms of looks (and from reviewing the specs - performance) and dollar for dollar for sure lots more bang for the buck than the porsche.
hopefully panamera will be VW breed and porsche will go back to where it belongs (no more sport utes, near look crossovers/station wagons, ie panamera, or what's next... pick up truck??) all personal views of course.
(another great day here - if you are anti olympian, i am & proud of it....around +8, sunny/cloudy, easy to top down, 14 day outlook remains positive for theirwarm weather -no snow. i understand Montreal just finished paying for their Olympics - over 30 yrs ago.....Vanc. taxpayers have a lot to look forward to, gotta love atheltics on public purse!)
