Temperature Control Unit LCD
Since I bought my car (996 C2), I had a minor issue with my temperature control unit. Several segments on the "88" digits on the left-hand side did not work. If you sat in my car, you wouldn't know because I always kept the temperature at 71 or 74, just because all those segments worked. But I knew it wasn't right and I wanted to fix it...
Temperature control units are not exactly cheap, but I found an interesting DIY alternative I thought I should share. I found a new LCD-only replacement on eBay which cost me less than $50. Installation took me only about 45 minutes. Module Master is the company who makes the one I bought, but there may be other suppliers out there.
Cheap, easy, looks good. See before/after pictures below.
Before (it SHOULD read 75):

After (it DOES read 75!!):

None whatsoever! The instruction set that came with the panel was very clear, and I had inquired with fellow Rennlisters (read Pongobaz!) on how to remove the console trims. Just have your Torx bits ready for the 2 screws holding the unit in.
