Ok, so pardon my ignorance but, what is the scam? I mean, do they expect folks to just send them $$ or are they after e-mail addresses or what? I don't get it, what's the point?

At least since the Spring. When I was selling my S4 then, ads were free. I was under the impression it was a limited time promo thing, but I guess not.

Well, I replied to a guy just to see what he would say. It's always the same story...I'm overseas right now, can't show you the car, we can close the deal with an escrow service, blah blah blah. See his response below. In his case, he said we can use eBay, but the car wasn't listed on eBay!! It was on autotrader. Here is his reply:

Hi,
All I can say is that some recent events in my life made me change
my perception of certain things, things I've never considered
important in the past. My wife is very sick and I want to tell you
that I am not selling this car for profit. I sell the car to help my
wife and to help other people who are sick, I will donate a part of
money for medical research. I'll be back home at the end of April but
we can close the transaction safe for both of us through eBay. I can't
meet you to show you the car, but I can send you more pictures and
details. I hope that is fine for you. I can ship the car on my expense
to your location. If you want to buy the car, send me your full name
and delivery address and eBay company will contact you with all the
details regarding this transaction ( the invoice and payment details
). If you agree with my price and my terms I am ready to reserve the
car for you.
The car has clear title. The condition of this car is incredible.
The paint is in perfect shape. There are no dings, scratches, damage
on the body or rust. This vehicle has been very well maintained and
kept both smoke and accident free.
I am waiting for your email.
Thank you,
Frank

I still don't understand the scam if there is no contact info .. how would you contact the scammer to be scammed in the first place ?

There seems to be a scam ad on many luxury and high end vehicles in the AutoTrader. Many of the Ontario ads seem to have a North York or Toronto location.I have been looking at Range Rovers, corvettes and 911's and there is almost always one scam ad for each.

Saw an Audi Allroad recently for a very cheap price - here are the two messages i got back from the person:

>> Hi,
Thanks for being interested in buying my car! It`s in perfect condition,no scratches, damages and never been implicated in any accidents. It has only 77,854 km and the price is $3,900.00 CAD.It comes with a new set of winter tires and it has never been smoked in.Because of my divorce settlement,i own this car and as a woman without driver`s license i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible(that`s why i`m selling it so cheap). We will use eBay`s Vehicle Purchase Protection plan for our both safety,i want only legit transactions.Let me know where are you located and any other details you need about it.
Have a great day! <<

I emailed asking when I could see the car...

>>Hi again,
I`m located in Montreal(the car is here with me) right now because i got a new job here, the thing is i`m very busy and i don`t have time to stay and meet with all my potential buyers, that is why i gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost), so i'm trying to sell it online under eBay`s protection. Here is how it works :
The sale will be managed through eBay under their Vehicle Purchase Protection program since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during online transactions. They act as a neutral third party.
1. I will contact eBay and give all the info about this deal.
2. They will email us the forms which are needed for our deal(invoice, payment instructions, buyer's and seller's protection policy)
3. You will send the money to eBay and they will notify me to ship the car to your location.
4. After you will inspect the car and decide to keep it, eBay will forward the funds to me once you have approved them to do so. You will have 5 days to inspect it.
Please reply with your complete name and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction at eBay and to move forward with this deal. After that they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction(terms, buyer protection, payment instructions,invoice,etc.).
P.S. Please don`t forget to send me your full name and address. <<

So, you are located in North York, and don't have a driver's licence, but magically moved the car to Montreal overnight?? I called her bluff, asked where in Montreal she lives since most of family is still there - funny, she never emailed back, must have sold the car or something...
