HELP locating an oil filter wrench
Anyone know where I can get one (it's for a 997) in Toronto? Better yet, anyone has one that I can borrow? I went to three Canadian Tires and bought two different types of wrenches and couldn't get my oil filter off. They also didn't have #7 cap wrench that according to Renntech forums seems to work.
I was so proud of myself for successfully changing the cabin filter and the air filter. I also drained all the oil out but now can't get the filter off. Needless to say, it's good that I have another car...
So if you can lend a hand, please let me know. And if not, please let me know what you think is my best option now:
1) Put the old oil back in and drive to an independent mechanic and ask them to loosen and hand tighten the oil filter for me and drive home and do the oil change myself.
2) Put new oil in and not replace the oil filter until Spring when I attend the Centennial course and replace the filter during class – my question is, would all the oil come out when I remove the filter forcing me to replenish the oil and therefore wasted the new oil that I am going to put in now?

how about grab it tighter ? is it a cartridge or a fully contained filter .. it should not be that tight .. I have grabbed em with massive lock wrenches before .. if it were an old car I could help you but I have no idea what we are dealing with ..

It's a filter housing so I don't want to break it. I am heading down to the States tomorrow so I will see if I have better luck finding a wrench cap that is supposed to fit. On the Subaru, I was able to hand loosen the oil filter - which I understand is how it should be. The last oil change was done by Downtown Porsche. I bet you they torque it like they were torquing wheel bolts!

I bought my oil filter wrench at a Mercedes dealership, it's the same size as Porsche paid abought $35.00 CAN for it. Porsche dealership does not sell them.

So I bought the MB wrench, thanks to scubadawg!
I got a call back from Pfaff - they told me that they can order it and it will cost $52 + taxes
Downtown Porsche told me that it's not available but I should be able to find it at Canadian Tire or NAPA
The Porsche dealer in Buffalo (where I am now) told me that they don't sell it but I can get it online if I google the words "Florida" "Porsche" "Oil Filter" "Wrench". I assume they meant Suncoast
So when I get home on Sunday, I will try the MB wrench, hopefully it works. BTW it takes a 22mm socket (I think the Porsche one takes 27mm)
I will post back with update after I try the MB wrench

I did 2 oil changes with the MB oil wrench, This last oil change I decided to switch oil brand from using Mobil 1 - 0-40, trying out Motul X-CESS 5-40 this year. Car is park until middle of April.
When I did the oil changes, I switched out my drain plug, and used a magnetic drain plug, too bad the Housing wasn't metal, then I would use a filtermag, like I have on my SUV. I can't justify the cost of spending $150.00 to put a spin on filter adapter, when I only do 1 oil change a year, (drive only about 5-7K per year)

Just finished changing the oil. With the use of the MB wrench and my newly acquired 25" breaker bar, the filer housing came loose very easily. In my moment of excitment, I forgot to lube the new gasket after putting it on. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't leak.

the lube is not just to prevent leakage but also to ensure an easy removal the next time...otherwise it can get caked on and then clean up is required before replacing. I would remove the filter now and lube it up, and if the gasket is damaged then get a new filter. don't ever forget LUBE.

If I were to remove the filter housing now to lube the gasket, wouldn't the oil start dripping out from the engine? In other words, if I am really careful with removing the filter housing, will I have to refill the engine with oil?
