Having my new Continental 810S tires installed today.

The guy is cleaning the rims and wheel wells, removing and re-torquing the wheels by hand.

Oh, and for $30 I get complete road hazard coverage on all four tires! Not bad considering they retail for over $2000.

i think over all you are pretty safe with tires if you have a good "rim" guy and the right equipment. But that would be the limt for me. I just don't think they would have the specialized skill or patience required for a Porsche.
They did do a great job on my wifes grand Am when the intake manifold went . I just couldn't be bothered and they had it in and out in an afternoon.

I'm the service manager at the store so I think they appreciate the magnitude of the job.

I'd like to pick up more luxury vehicle business. The guy working on the rims used to work at frisby tire and was their go to guy for all low profile tires.

The bottom line is that I can match anyones price on tires and offer, BY FAR, the best warranty for the least money. I have final say on all warranty issues and either way it doesn't come out of our pocket so if it's ever a grey area I'll side with the customer.

No offence to CT owners but last winter I brought my SUV to Cdn tire at Yonge and Summerhill to check a leaking tire...they said it can't be fixed as leak is too close to sidewall, I asked them to show me, they couldn't and didn't mark the tire...I took it to Steelcase, they plugged it (leak was not on sidewall) and they asked me who put the wheel on as the lug nuts could be loosened with their hands...needless to say I won't be going back let alone with a Pcar.
there may be some good mechanics but many CT shops have hacks working there so you can't take a chance. curious do they have silicone covered tools for removing the wheels without damaging them? it is hard to tell from the picture.

First thing I did when I started there a month ago was ensure they had plastic tipped sockets to protect allow rims. I'm also in talks to order a new state of the art tire installer that will make it nearlly impossible to damage alloys.

On vehicles with expensive alloys, I insist they use a manual torque wrench.

As for the story of the plug and patch, it really could be said about anywhere. Part of our challenge is the volume we do. If the average come back in the industry is 5% and Joe's Garage does 100 customers a month they'll get 5, where as we do 1000 a month and get 50. It's not that we make mistakes more frequently, just that our volume is greater. End of the day is that everybody makes errors, just some of us are mature enough to own up and offer a solution and the rest try and bull**** out of it.
