If Porsche recommends Mobil 1, uses Mobil 1, and my car has been using it for 12 years now, with no problems.....I feel comfortable sticking with it.
I've been running Mobil 1 in my daily driver for just over 10 years. The approach end of the cam lobes looked like they came right off the shelf the last time I checked at 138K kms.
A co-worker runs Mobil 1 in his 330Ci since new and changes it every 20K kms. The lab on the next floor says the oil is still good to go.
I do question Porsche's oil bulletin and why they recommend 0W-40 or similar right across the board on air cooled and liquid cooled engines. I would tend to think the air cooled engines have greater tolerances requiring a thicker oil to reduce blow-by.
BTW, Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart USA goes for US$22 per 4.73 liter jug.
