I'll be in the GTA,Resto advice?
Usually when I go to Toronto I travel alone however this time I'm bringing extra luggage with me. So I will need a few good restaurant suggestions for a 3 night stay. We are staying downtown at the Royal York and won't have a car.. but can take the streetcar etc.
I figure good meals will make up for flying Air Canada to Pearson and then having to drive into town.

Not exactly in the same area as the Royal York, but I would recommend the Boiler House in the Distillery District (www.boilerhouse.ca). And it's a 2 minute walk from Downtown Porsche, in case you need to buy some souvenirs

Depends on what you are looking for:
There is an excellent Italian at Ave and Davenport called l"unita, and they do BYOB with a corkage charge.
If you want superb oysters got Rodneys on King E, or ,closer by, Starfish on Adelaide and Jarvis.
If you want a pub meal, good food and nice atmosphere go to Allens on the Danforth. Next door is Dora Keogh that does Irish music late. All of the above need a cab or subway.
If you want a high end meal nearby, try Colborne Lane..noisy but great food, or Bymark.

+1 on l'unita - great place, great friendly staff.
close to royal york, or at least in walking distance, you could try a few places:
hy's for steak.
ki for some fusion.
royal york itself has a few restaurants
bymark and canoe (pricey but good)
the "theatre district" strip on king st. just west of john.

There is a Benihana in the basement of the Royal York, if you want some entertainment, but don't want to eat in the CN tower...
North 44 near Young and Eglington is one of the better places I've been in Toronto.

IMO Toronto has many great restaurants. what type of food are you looking for? what type of atmosphere? what is your budget?
Terroni is quite good for inexpensive italian (great atmosphere).
Bymark is quite good as well.
Mortons for expensive steak. lots of great restaurants in Yorkville.
If you are flying from Montreal you should try Porter takes you to the island.

originally we were going to fly Porter but I managed to get a pretty decent discount from a friend that works at Air Canada. So no Q400s this trip. French, Italian, American, along those lines for food. Budget 150$-250$ for 2 people. Atmosphere, well no screaming kids swing from the lights.
This is my first time doing the couple day thing in Toronto. Usually when I go it's for a few hours then head back to Montreal. Too bad there is no Leafs/Habs game that weekend

Here are a couple of suggestions.... Try North 44 - Pure class all the way. At the top end of your budget but well worth it. You can find them on line and reserve a table. I also hear that Sotto Sotto on Avenue Rd. is a great Italian spot but I have yet to try it.

Its not close to downtown TO but I use to have a link to a place that I thought was near the 427/401 area. They had a web-site with a real kick *** wine cellar and a liquor list to put an awful lot of bars to shame. I have never had the opportunity to go their but was wondering if anybody knew the name. Sorry but that is all that I remember
