Finally found the part I need for the fix today. Overnight shipping from the Indianapolis dealership. Tried both GTA dealers, 2 Montreal dealers, 1 in BC, Nineapart and Whale Tail, nobody had the part.

Oh yeah, I have a K&N Cold Air Intake for sale!!

J.P.
Hey J.P.
It's Justin, glad to hear you got the part. Did you end up getting a serpentine belt as well? Why are you selling the K&N intake?

Hmmm, I'm guessing he's selling it because the bracket for the K&N sliced into his coolant hose... K&N CAI and Porsches don't seem to go well together.

Those aftermarket CAI's don't add any performance gains and only cause headaches with trashed MAFs.

I'm surprised to hear that. With my vintage, K&N is the top of the line for air filters and filter housings. Way better than factory - gets rid of a lot of crap in the engine bay, especially with a carbureted engine like mine.

K&N filters are a POS. Had one installed in my B5 S4, MAF issue.
Then one in Turbo, I was told, no oiling, more horespower, blah blah blah.
CEL within a week, another MAF sensor to replace.
Stick with Stock.

Cliff, I learned about this "coolant" thing with the cleanup crew, from turn 4 all the way through pit out! But MAF sensors, check engine lights, OBD codes, these things confound me On the other hand, I know how to tune a Weber carburetor...

i have had my EVOMS on for almost 3 years... no MAF issues... i ran a Oiled Filter for 2 years... now i run a full Dry Filter...

They only Throw Codes or Throw a CEL if the Filter is Oiled "Too Much"... I had one in my VW for 3 years never had any issues

But that K&N Intake kit is a Hack Job...

I thik this would be an interesting test of the dynolicious app. a few runs with the CA insatlled and a few runs with the stock installed , you will know pretty quickly and end the" tribal kowledge debate.

Definitely need a need serp belt and top up that devils blood stuff..

...good tp go ...

So how did you do it ? did you have your car trailered back ?

The K&N bracket slicing up my coolant hose and ruining my day (my week!!) was just one problem too many for me with that setup. I have a ghost CEL that keeps turning on and off, with codes that don't help me much w/ troubleshooting (PI1117, -28 and -30). I'm not 100% sure the K&N CAI is the culprit, but at this point I'm willing to take a chance with original parts, unless someone tells me I'm better off with the EVOMS setup. Zookie?

Regardless, my part arrived this morning (one day late) and I went to Mosport with a few jugs of coolant, not knowing how much I would need. The car took 6 liters, which somewhat reassured me, since that tells me I wasn't empty (~20 liter capacity). Engine wouldn't idle quite right at first, but after a few minutes to warm up and burn the coolant sprayed all over wire harnesses and what not, the engine stabilized.

On a positive note:

1 - Found out that I need a new serpentine belt (thanks Phil!), so that's on order now. Good opportunity to inspect for bearing wear on those pullies at the same time when I do the swap...

2 - I don't need a new engine!!!!

Thanks for your help on Monday guys!

Are you saying that the 2 local dealers didn't have a serpentine belt in stock for a M96 engine?! That's a 96K maintenance service item along with air filters, wipers, etc...
