It's simlar
Here it's called "Grand Exces ds Vitesse" aka GEV. Which stays on your driving record for 10 years.
GEV is the following
40kph or more in a 60kph or lower zone
50kph or more in a 60 or higher zone or 90kph zone
60kph or more in a 100kph zone.
1st infraction is automatic suspension of your license for 7 days and if you are found guilty double the points and double the fine. You need to pass through court for that part but they'll suspend the license on the spot.
2nd infraction. 30 days license suspension,30 day seizure of car if both infractions were committed in 60kph or under zones. If found guilty double the points, double the fine.
3rd infraction- If you already have 2 GEVS. 30 day suspension or 60 days if all 3 gevs were committed in 60kph or under zones. 30 day seizure of car. Double fines and double points
4th infraction- Basically the same deal as 3rd time but Triple fine
Since the cops are an extension of the tax arm, many cities and municipality's have lowered the limits down from 50kph to 40kph or even 30kph on large streets and boulevards. Of course being in Quebec very little notice was given of the change in speeds so many people got caught under the new law. During the 1st week in April 2008 over 500 GEVs were handed out.
A hot spot seems to be highway 20 from where it drops down from 100kph to 70kph entering the city. The 720 is another popular spot and highway 15 from the 40 to the Champlain bridge
To add insult to injury there are a good number of speed cameras around as well.

I am all for speed limits.. however proper speed limits. For example one set limit in the city center and another limit lets say 120kph or 130kph outside the center. Driving on the 401 going to Toronto at '100" is very boring.

Nothing above 115. I don't have cruise control in my car so I will be using GPS. I've noticed the OPP aren't very friendly with out of province cars.. let alone out of province track cars.
