Cadmium or zinc plating for rotors, where?
I just got a pair of 2 piece rotors and I need to get them plated to prevent rust.
Anybody knows any shop in GTA that does cadmium or zinc plating?
I found this shop in London that does zinc plating.

Also found this shop that does anodizing.

How long do you think the plating will last? Pads are abrasive and will wear through the metal of the rotor itself. I doubt the plating will last a few weeks. I also wonder if the plating will affect the friction between pads and rotor. If youo don't know the answers to these questions, it might be worth investigating. My DeMan rotors came with some sort of plating to prevent rust in storage and shipping. Twenty minutes at the track and the plating was gone where the pads touch the rotor.

Of course the plating will wear off where it rubs with the pads. It's mainly for the area where the pads are not touching i.e. inside the rotor and the edge of the rotor.

You generate so much heat on a rotor it doesn't matter where you put the coating... you would nees to repeat the process so often it isn't worth it. IMHO
I guess I come from a different world as I have no idea why you would spend the money and time to do this unless it was a show car you NEVER drove...

i do see where ekam is coming from however . On my previous Porsche i had Porsche OE rotors on and they actually didn't rust and you could see the "TOP HAT" portion quite visibly through the wheels. a few years later i didn't know better and put some aftermarket ones on and sure enough they got rusted and brown fairly quickly and although still solid it did look like a bit of an eye sore.

Cadmium isn't something I would want hanging around when it ablates.
Not exactly the same as Beryllium Oxide, but not a very pleasant material for the environment.

theiceman knows what I'm talking about.
Yes all coating will burn off eventually, I know that much. The car will be driven on the track ocassionally. We're living in Canada afterall so I do the best to avoid them rusting out.
I sort of wish I hadn't bought these rotors because the OE rotors are pretty good but I'm not a fan of x-drilled design.
It's going on this year's PCA Conours.

A couple of years ago I had a bunch of cad plating (suspension parts, fasteners, brackets, etc.) done here: http://www.activemetalfinishing.com/
They have a minimum charge (iirc, about $200). Their work was fine, and their location was handy.

I dropped of a quantity of hardware with them on Thursday. They were not able to give me a price, when I asked for a guess the guy said 500-600. I immediately said no way and bent down to grab my bucket of nuts and bolts. Then the fellow stopped and insisted I wait for his Production Manager to review and that he would get back to me with a price. Anyways I plan on calling them on Monday and likely just picking up my stuff and go somewhere else.
Does anyone have any experience with any other shops in the Toronto to GTA west?
