wow.... that would be great if it did....

I would ask for a demonstration.... I beleive a standard ODBII device will do most of what he lists -
Reset service reminders, Reads diagnostic trouble codes, Displays actual values
Shows ECU information, Clears diagnostic trouble codes, Turns off check engine light

It's the auxiliary systems that I'd be interested in.....

Can u ask for a demonstration?

I'm a bit sceptic about this, OBDII started in 95-96 on most models, before that it is ODBI and there's not much you can do with that and there is no such connecter on my S2, I think it's a big round connecter with 7 pins.

I found the maker of the product: http://uiftech.en.alibaba.com/search...chText=porsche

I've emailed the seller to ask for a demo - we'll see what he says.

I did buy that cable last week from China. Same exact cable for CAN$28.00 shipped to my door (EBAY)There are lot's of free window based OBDII software on the net that can work with that cable. Viewing live data, error code, clearing check engine light & data aquisition is possible but I'm sure reading DME, Airbag, ABS, Tiptronic, Alarm, Seat Memory, Heating & A/C, can only be done with a PST2 or PIWIS not with that cable!

Thanks this is good to know, (about the ebay item). He got back to me saying he has a money back policy.

http://www.obd2tech.com/

But at the same time I don't want to waste time on crap even if I do get my money back.

The cable reads?? Looks to me like a standards OBDII - USB cable. Who owns the software and do you have the licensing rights to duplicate them?

No he doesn't and I'm not paying 100+ for stuff copied in china when I can pay the price that Tolum paid which is what I have done through ebay. These guys are importing them from China and then marking them up. Mine should be here in a week or so. I'll let you know how it works.

The key is to make sure that the plug is FULLY secured into the OB2 port before you power up the PC AND then turn on the ignition.

I witnessed someone using a $7K scan unit (it does all makes and all functions) and the plug fell out of my port and the unit went into re-boot mode for 5 minutes - nothing could be done until the 5 minute timer turned off, (punishment mode?). These units have a protection mode that won't harm settings on your car if this happens. The install your own program on a PC with just the cable does not have these protection functions. I've already been told to place my laptop on the floor and plug in - double check the connection and then boot up the PC, start the program and THEN turn the car on and don't touch the damn thing. I was told not to sit in the car with it on my lap and play around as the person warning said he did that and reached for a pen and the plug came out in mid system reading. Nothing major, but he had to reset a few items. But these program cannot harm fuctions they cannot control - say flashed memory fuctions. But it did freak him out. I don't like being freaked out and will follow his instructions!

Yeah, you could just ask for demo to help you know how is it used. Try checking up some reviews also. that'll help.

Stick with Durametric. Works great and they are constantly upgrading the software and making the upgrades available for free.

Why would I pay over $350CAN for something I just bought for $50.00CAN that works great??? As far as updates? The only updates they are currently working on are for new models and adding new ver's whenever the motronic ver is updated. They have not added anything for my year car for quite a while now and most likely will not. The software is one gen later then the current release (up to 2007 997) and I can live with the operation tabs moving to the top of the screen instead of a link in the bottom left for the real time reading of engine functions. No big deal - I'll save the $300 bucks. The ver I have works on all P Cars with OB2 ports, ie , 993, 996, 986, 987, 997 and SUV. Not sure about 944/928 models but I believe it does if they use OB2 type ports.

It shows all codes, tells you what the code is and you can clear them as well as turning off CELL's. It shows details on your car such as VIN, engine VIN, gearbox VIN, radio code, type 1 and 2 rev ranges and some option codes.

I like the real time output to an excel format (or to printer). I plug in the cable supplied and turn on the car (after backing it out of the garage!!) and record over 30 some sensor outputs. It's already saved me money as I identified an issue and cleared the code and fixed the problem without a visit to a dealer.

Oh and another thing: Anyone selling these items on Craigslist or Kjiji for $100-$120 is importing the item as I did for 50 bucks and marking it up by 100 percent.

You can save money by buying it yourself unless your lazy and want to give someone an extra 50 or 60 bucks for the same thing.

If you want an email address to buy it directly PM me - she takes PayPal and I have hooked up a few other P car owners. I will not answer any public requests for this email.
