Default Best route to trailer from Tremblant to Calabogie

Sorry if this has been asked before.
Last time I trailered from LCMT to Calabogie, it took me through downtown Ottawa on local roads; a nice city, but not with a trailer.
I only see 1 large bridge across the river (on 50 in Ottawa) but surely there is a better route. I could cross further East in Hawkesbury but that seems out of the way, too. There is ferry in between, which I have heard is not too bad.
Can anyone suggest the best route?
Thanks in advance from a U.S. friend.

The route through downtown Ottawa isn't great, but all of the heavy trucks are forced that way too, so at least it's well-established. As you suspected, it is across the 50, down King Edward, right on Rideau, left on Nicholas and back on the highway. It's well-signed and not too bad outside of rush hours; you're really only off the highway for about 5-10 minutes.

The ferry at Masson-Angers is good, and operates every five minutes or so all season long. Figure $20 for a truck and trailer, I think. You may have a problem if ground clearance is marginal; the ramps onto and off the ferry can be steep. Once off the ferry, it's a straight shot through Ottawa on the highway.

The 323 north of Lac-des-Plages used to be appalling, particularly during the last two years while they were building the bypass. I hear the bypass is now open and is smooth and straight, so no problems there; prior to this, most people with large trailers would go via Montreal.

Between Ottawa and Calabogie, you shouldn't have any problems. There is one tight turn in the town proper, but there's enough room.

Have fun at CMP... I certainly do.

Rick, I have made that trip. I take 15 South to Hwy 50 West and then a 2 lane to the turn off for Hawkesbury. Then Hwy 417 (4 lane) to Ottawa and 17 to Clabogie road. Easy drive. Ottawa guys may have a better idea mind you.
