actually I think what is happening in general is our dollar is fairly stable and the US dollar is dropping on world markets with people not seeing the US as a good investment these days and pulling there money out ..

Our government isn't running the printing presses at full tilt like the US and devaluing the currency, we're a commodities based economy, oil is going up as is our "petro-dollar", our debt burden isn't nearly as great as the US and our banking system isn't in shambles. All those things will add up to a CAD that is above parity sometime this year.

a 2005 c2 with CPO is priced at $45k usd, after exchange (12%), duty (6%), modification fee ($1000?), transportation ($1000) and import fee ($1500) the price gets awfully close to what i see canadian c2's listed for.
it's how flexible the dealers are on the CPO pricing, because non-CPO cars go as low as $36k usd.

I think US sellers will be more motivated than CAN sellers for the most part and you may score a deal! I can understand wanting to keep things simple, but I saved at least $20,000 on my GT3 last year, and got exactly what I wanted because of the larger selection.
Porsche of Farmington Hills (Detroit) did my Canadian conversion for $200 while it was there.

this is all good feedback, i'm going to keep an eye out for a CPO c2 or c4.
i'm not really into driving there and picking it up myself, i prefer to have someone that has done all that do it for me.

importation is actually a relatively simple process once you understand all the steps. I imported a 2007 C4S last year that I purchased from a dealer outside of Boston. I drove it back and I was less than 1 hour between U.S. and Canadian customs. I was completely through the RIV process the following day with plates on the car by noon.
