a couple of charter challenges failed because the lawyer was a bonehead and argued very poorly...horrendously poor reasoning on his part (must have been a freebie lawyer fresh out of osgoode).

he didn't even argue the aforementioned point 2 posts up which is the main issue with the law.

i'll see if i can dig up the link from GTAM.

I believe the successful arguement made against front plates in other countries may have been on safety. Carrying a sharp piece of metal at the point where a pedestrian meets your car makes a mockery of all the legislation that has improved car design to lessen pedestrian injuries.

The real plate must also be affixed to the front bumper in order to be legal. I haven't bothered to investigate the details behind this but I got a ticket for keeping the real plate secured inside the car (front window). Court date scheduled for September.

Just got a ticket in front of my house for no front plate. Im sure there are worst crimes out there!

Officer said go to court house to plea for lower fine. This whole process is going to cost more than the $110 ticket.

Was the car parked in front of your house or was the cop catch you coming or going?

Of course he told you to go to court. Even though the ticket is $110, it will cost the taxpayer, which includes you paying again, even more.

Maybe they need to look at incentive based pay for going after rapists, murders and pedophiles.

If ticketing people over something as pointless as this is what they do then maybe we should defund the police.

All my cars have front plate except this one. I put a Carbonio plate holder on but it was too low and the plate came off. I have an adhesive plate but there is basically nowhere to place it so I am running with no front plate..........

I had one of my Cayman GTS for 8 years. I had an exact copy of the front plate in a reflective sticker. Drove 60,000 km....

I got compliments from the police and citizens alike. I only got one ticket for not displaying the front plate as the officer offered to trade a speeding ticket for that. I took him up on it.

lol. What I find more interesting is what goes through the mind of someone to respond to a post from 14 years ago.

Bit of a time gap between post numbers 23 and 24.

I would be interested in knowing if the law has been successfully challenged in court though

I recently replaced the metal license plate with one of these. Willing to take the risk of being ticketed.

https://licenceplate.ca/

Fast service. Install was flawless with a bit of heat from a heat gun. Super happy with the result - much better looking than a metal plate hanging off the front.

Cars are safer for pedestrians but current bloated pickups are much more dangerous. As a result pedestrian deaths and injuries are way up
