6th Gear @ Mosport - season opener!
WOOHOOOOO! Season opener for me yesterday at Mosport. As most of you know, I've been chasing hp gremlins for the better part of three years now, and I'm happy to say I finally nailed them! I had an absolutely kick *** day yesterday, and the car ran beautifully all day! I've never seen speeds that high in that car - I'll bet I hit 180. I know that's not very fast compared to what most of you guys are doing, but remember, this is a 35 year old car with a 40 year old engine making about 130-140 hp.
The day began with a brake fluid bleed at the track - I didn't have time to do it before I left, so I just did it there. It also began with a slight fuel leak out the level sender. The level sender sits on the top of the gas tank, and there's a small bit of the tank that sits higher and maybe holds 500ml of fuel, so if I filled it right to the top, it would weep out the level sender. I don't know why, I'd just put a new gasket on there. So I had to keep it at max 3/4 full, and stuff some paper towel around there, to keep everything dry.
I finally got on track around 10:30 or so, did a few tentative laps, and everything felt great. By mid to late afternoon, I was actually passing a few people! I couldn't believe it - I NEVER pass people in my car. There was a stripped out Acura that couldn't keep up with me through the turns, a stunningly beautiful 997 C4S that I could easily keep up with (probably a newbie) and a white C5 corvette that couldn't catch me, except on the straights. At one point, I was keeping up with a nice yellow Ferrari, which was really cool, until we pulled into the pits and I noticed he had his son in the passenger seat!
It was probably the most fun track day I've ever had. It really is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow!

Glad you had a great day, and the car looked great...I was out there in the white MINI Cooper so I know what it's like to be hp-challenged!

There were 2 of you guys in the Coopers, and you guys were FLYING! Those are awesome cars - my dad has an 05 (?) Cooper S that I really enjoy driving - I'd love to try it on the track!

Great news Christien!
Glad to hear your running full steam now.
I'm off to Calabogie this afternoon for a full track day tomorrow. Can't wait!
Calabogie has a loooong back straight...so I'll report back the terminal velocity. I'm looking forward to finding out what the combined magic formula of: 3.2ltr+cat bypass+steve wong chip+ M&K muffler delivers in terms of full-on speed.

No, kid seats go in soon.
Funny kid story....my 2 year old was coming down the street returning from the playground. He saw me gently rubbing down the newly waxed Porsche in the drive way. Of course he had just finished a few handfuls of Cheesies and playground sand.....
So he walks up and proceeds to rub his hands all over the paintwork, just like Daddy. I was laughing too hard to be mad.
