Speaking of idiotic speeding regulations...

Does anyone know why the 80 signs are still up on the stretch of the QEW around Mississauga/Cawthra? The construction has been done for ages, but the signs still stay up. I often go in around 125 or so, then realize how close I am to 50 over. I really am paranoid these days...

I noticed that too, I don't often do that stretch of hwy. I drop my speed down to 95 and watch all the traffic whiz by me. I was also under the impression that this area is the least ticketed because it is the most dangerous stretch for the police officers getting out to write a ticket.

I drive that section all the time, and most people ignore it, as far as I can tell.
I remember reading an article, I believe in the Hamilton Spectator, about a year ago, that said the QEW eastbound is among the least-ticketed stretches of highway in Ontario, because, as you said, it's too dangerous. Westbound is more ticketed (I got one right where the 403 merges at the Ford plant several years ago), but still much less than the 401, 403, DVP, etc.

Hey i remember that blitz. there were even cops in the fast lane shoulder pulling cars in by the ford plant.
no danger there at all and never seen an accident . just a good tax grab spot.

There was an article in the Star two Saturdays ago reporting on the back end of these draconian regulations. In it two Officers were singled out because they were doubling their salaries, hauling in 150k to 163K for writing traffic tickets and spending OT in court.
A buddy got stopped for speeding on Lawrence Ave, after issuing the ticket the Officer said to my buddy "I would fight the ticket if I were you", ... you couldn't say cash grab any louder.

Call or email the MTO head office and ask for an explanation. If that doesn't work, call your local councillor, they love $hit like this.

My shop is just off Cawthra and I know this stretch of road well. If any speed reduction is justifiable this is it. First I'll point out that no one actually slows down. But here's why they should. Eastbound lanes zizag left right over uneven pavement and the Hwy 10 south traffic merges into this on a short ramp. The Hwy 10 north merges a bit later with a concrete barrier along side. The west bound is a bit different with the exit to Hwy 10 ramp shortened so it sometimes causes exiting traffic to back up onto the Q.
I have seen chain reaction crashes in both east and westbound directions quite a bit back of the zig zag.
I've been surprised at the lack of enforcement.
