OT: Hey soundguys... iPod into Amp/Receiver... Monster vs Belkin
Ok, so I wish to listen to my iPod (iPhone) music through my stereo.
I picked up cables from two manufacturers to hear if there is any difference.
Monster iCable $50
vs
Belkin Stereo Cable $19
My questons:
1. Will there be a noticeable difference between the two? (I KNOW the
Monster story is just about marketing, but I wanted to try them)
2. Those of you who have listened to your iPod though your system, did you
find the sound quality acceptable?
Note:
receiver/tuner: Magnum Dynalab
speakers: B&W 805S
Thanks lads!

Well Mr. Barrington, take the Belkin. Belkin makes a LOT of cables, even cables for other companies. You will not know the difference because there isn't a difference
I've listened to an iPod through my receiver using a $5 cable and it sounded great, all my music is 192kbps to 320kbps.

Agreed. I've seen pro studios wired together with the old red and white RCA cables - as is most of my studio. I really don't think these cables make much difference.

Go with the belkin. Quality will be about the same not just because of the quality of construction being both over the top, but also because MP3's are lossy, so whatever you're gaining with the marginal improvement in cable awsomness, you give up with a lossy format song (do ipods play FLAC?)
If you want to spend the money for a nice cable, do it based on style IMO, especially if your going to have to see the wire/ends.
having said that: barrington, where do you get your music from? like electronic stuff, trance, dance, house etc...
i'm on a couple of torrent sites but need 2 maintain ratio's for them so i can't do things like download deadmau5 otherwise it'll nuke my ratio.

Woah, Omar's dead on - didn't even notice you mentioned Ipod - that's going to be your weak link there. You could use household electrical wire to hook up your components in that case! Ipod uses AAC format, which I believe they developed. It's much better quality than mp3 at 128, 160 or even 192, but still a far cry from uncompressed 44.1 or 96K.

Thanks guys
I'll A/B the two cables just out of curiosity before I return the Monster brand.
Omar, i'm not downloading dance tracks, so i'm using Limewire.
For House, check traxsource, but it's not free. There are some Russian
sites that have them for cheap I believe but I havent been on them.

thanks, will check it out.
i'm spending a lot of time listening on www.torrentech.com rite now.
if anyone wants an invite let me know ,i have a few banked ones.
i like the site because a lot of rare stuff comes up and they have very strict upload guidelines so its always fast, full album and track info and complete albums.

Truth be told, I'm into everything - electronic is good, though I'm far from knowledgable. Got into acid jazz and stuff about a decade ago - ninja tune stuff. But if it's a ratio site, I'm useless b/c I've got nothing to contribute.

not a radio site but you do need 2 seed torrent files (upload as well as download to maintain a certain ratio)
acid jazz eh, got any samples? i've been trying to find a lot of older music, like 20's-50's jazz, big band stuff, rockabilly stuff....plus lots of 60's-70's rock.
