Cell ban coming to Ontario

I don't have a problem with this and think it's reasonable. They should expand it to include: applying makeup while driving, reading while driving, giving your kids a beat down while driving, not driving while driving, being a moron while driving and so on.

This is just another grand-stand law to appear like they are doing something at queens park. There are laws on the books to deal with all the stupidity on our roads already, they just aren't enforced.
Just this morning I was being tailgated by a cop while just up ahead of me a gentleman was weaving all over the road, going off on the shoulder, tailgating the car in front of him, but the officer was far too intent on waiting for me to speed to even notice the disaster that was going on just in front of us!

I assume there are laws in place for any type of "careless" act while driving.
A cell phone ban sounds like the stupid gun bans they keep talking about.
I'm sure all of the gang bangers have thier firearms registered.

Toronto: open season for guns and knives just don't SPEED. I agree with this law as too many bad drivers holding a phone to their ear. I am suprised they don't charge them with street racing and confiscate their cars.
Police need to focus on guns and real crime and lay off traffic. How many murders this past weekend? innocent bystander shot??? no, let's focus on speeding

Do you think this new law will affect those with Bluetooth GPS. I use mine as a hands free phone all the time. If they ban them as usage maybe they should also look into banning the equipment mounted inside and on the dash of many police cars...ie Radar and displays????...hhmmmmm

I will never use my cell phone in the P-car cause it's not physically possible. I once had it in my hand while trying to park in an underground and I almost hit 3 pillars. It's a hard card to dive with only one hand even on the highway. Mine being a cab will make hands free impossible due to noise and that's with the roof up. I do have bluetooth through my GPS but I don't think I will be able to hear it.

I find that even hands free can distract you if the conversation is detail oriented. I just find a spot to pull over...no call is worth a ticket, or my life for that matter.

Will they also ban drinking coffee. Dropping a phone to get 2 hands on the wheel in an emergency as opposed to a hot cup of Joe..... Another knee jerk badly considered piece of legislation. I'm for it, but make it thorough. Coming soon, a ban on cars without cup holders.

I don't know about you guys but my car is my mobile office. I really don't know what to think of this new law but I guess it's for the better. Generally speaking I don't believe 90% of drivers are able to operate a vehicle safely while on a cell phone. The worst offender is TEXT MESSAGING or returning emails.
Once again this is just a band-aid to fix a larger problem which is very poor and inadequate driver training from the start!

Is the ban already in effect or are they just talking about it. That was the question I was asking myself today as I swerved all over the road trying to check my e-mail and make a phone call.

i hate it when the woman puting on makeup cuts me off by not shoulder checking. I always end up spilling my coffee onto my blackberry right in the midle of my text message, and then usually runs into my laptop or shorts out my shaver. not to mention soaks the paper i was reading.
Oh well
