Hits: Direct injection, more HP, better fuel economy, touchscreen PCM, Bluetooth, ipod interface....oh yeah, PDK 7 speed for those that don't like clutch pedals.

Misses: what's with those taillights? Looks like styling for styling's sake. Still no red reflector across the back.Busy steering wheel with blingy paddles for PDK. Could have done more to the interior imho.

Somebody on another forum was posting excerpts from the newest PET release that itemize the rear reflector strip for the AWD cars...

I think this is a fabulous "facelift" overall:

1) Significatly more HP
2) Better emissions and mileage
3) I like the styling (OK, subjective)
4) Held the line on weight
5) Availability of PDK. I know there is controversy surrounding the controls, but I think Porsche has been working on this gearbox for a very long time, and I'm guessing it will be functionally superb.

Having said that, I still suspect I would choose a manual...

You could look it up on google or wiki but.....

even gears on one clutch, odd on the other. As you change gears one clutch is disengaging and the other one is engaging. The theory is you get continuous power transfer. In a standard clutch you have to disengage power to change the gear.

Anyone have any Cdn pricing info on th FL cars? I asked my local dealer a month ago and they said prices would go down -- somehow I doubt that?

I wouldn't buy a new PDK car for at least 2+ years.......they are going to have so many bugs with it....it will be just like the Magnetti Marelli F1 crap from Ferrari. It took them years to figure that out. I'd bet over 50% of the reasons these new cars go into the workshop are PDK related.

And the rear tailights are enough to make me pass on the car. I'd send it to "Exclusiv" and get the old ones refitted or totally new ones designed. They look like ****.

You're kidding right? Comparing Ferrari's F1 to the PDK system. Remember that Porsche created the tiptronic system and owns most of the company that created the dsg that is used on vws, audis, bugatti, lamborghini, etc... The taillight comment is funny too and Exclusive doesn't do oddball requests like refitting old taillights to new cars...

Avia......

Having worked for the dealer for years myself, and having sent many an oddball request much more unusual than taillights to Exclusiv in my time, you really have no idea what they will do for a price. This would be approved and insignificant cost wise. A local bodyshop could do it for me. The guideline for modifications you request is roughly that they shall not impinge up on the safety of the vehicle, the applicable laws of the country of operation, and they must be realistic. Basically that means no 1/3 scale electric CGT's that can do 300 KMH......but pretty much everything else is fair game. The car looks like a Mitsubishi Eclipse from the rear with those lights.

I bet PDK is a PITA for 2 years.......I've seen it all before.....and a comparison to the MM system is quite relevant. A FIAT subsidiary (FIAT owns Ferrari) owns a huge chunk of MM and that didn't help things......nor did Ford's owning Edsel.

My prediction is worn clutches way to early in the cycle, uneven shift quality in daily use, and mechanical/hydraulic/electrical failures that cause you to call a tow truck way too much for your liking. They will fix it if they can do it cost effectively......probably 2 years later will be the window of time it takes. Then again, they didn't fix the leaking cylinder barrels on early 964's immediately....nor did they fix dual mass flywheels immediately.....customers paid in many cases and it took 2+ years for the factory to fix it with redesigned parts, they "never" fixed the valve guide and SAI valve issue on 993's at all, and 996's still leak with a new RMS installed (lost count of the #), Cayenne's have a very expensive water pump and coolant line issue now (done 3 this year), and Boxster engines have their cylinder walls crack resulting in a new engine being required (done 3 this year), etc, etc...........shall I continue ? You work for one of the dealers in TO correct ? You should know this stuff too.

A Tiptronic is an automatic transmision with torque converter........it has nothing to do with the PDK or F1 system.

Iceman.....

Yeah I am looking.....decisions, decisions......

Not sure I like the 4's red reflector with the droopy tail lights. Love the fact the put the turbos awd system in the 4's. They should have done that in the first place. Glad I never went out and got a 997. These new mkII 997 are quite an impovement of the 996. I can see 997 mkI's used car prices dropping below the 996

So this is the new 998? What happens when they get the new model after 999? Will it be called a 911 1000?

Sorry guys but they really need to do something with the styling of these cars. It's like Jeremy Clarkson says, when they create a new model, the use tracing paper. There are just to many similarities between all the current incarnations of the 911, the Cayman and the Boxer. I say bring back the air cooled wide body 911's of the 80's. Or how about a slant nose 997. Something. Anything.
