I was up at Autowerks yesterday and an R8 pulled up and parked next to the GT3. The GT3 looked like a relic from the past...

I find that weird. Take a 997 TT and pull it up to an R8. Then drive a Gallardo up and put in on the other side of the TT. Seems to me that they look very similar R8 vs lambo but somehow the R8 has little details that makes it look like it is copied from the 997 TT.

Hey now. No need to get like that. There's a reason why the styling of the 911 has stood the test of time. It's a beautiful shape. But when they apply that style to everything they make, well, then it can get a little old. I was just saying that the 911 should look like a 911. I'm sure their design teams could have come up with distinctive styling for the Cayman and the Boxer to differentiate the models. Like the 911, 924, 928 of old.

I'm fairly indifferent in terms of the styling changes they made. I do like some of the mechanical and interior changes but not for the cost difference over a used MkI. The 997s have come down in cost so much it'd be hard to justify a new MkII over a used MkI. I can only image what I'll get for my 997 when I trade it in for a 998 (2010/11?).

Here's a review of the new 911 from Winding Road. Lots of images.
