A bit of a rant. Tire stores and lack of pricing on the web stinks.

I'm looking for a pair of rears for my Box but the lack of information/prices on these sites is lacking. It's made worse due to the fact that i'm not 100 percent on what I want so i'm price/model pricing. ( i have a rough idea but still..)

I can see myself making this kind of phone call..
"hello, this is Xtire store" (them)
" Hi, so, umm, what do you carry?" (me)

You end up looking like a "retard", i'd much rather look that way in private searching their sites lol

My choices are running between Pilot Sports, G-force or possibly one of the Yoko models.

Get them delivered to a installation centre in the states, drive down, get them installed, drive back, declare them, pay a bit of tax, go home happy.

 

That was an option but i was really trying to keep my business north of the 49th :-)

Tiretrends.com is the Canadian equivalent. However, if you want to keep your business Up North it will cost you. I have even heard of some tire retailers here ordering from tirerack. In any case, most of the tires are manufactured in the states I do believe.

 

Thanks man, that should at least give me a starting point. I also considered ordering from tirerack due to the prices being so much lower but add shipping/taxes i'm afraid it would bring the prices up to near our CDN prices. I need to check with Tire Works considering they support UCR, it seems their site is underconstruction.

Try Taylor Tire at 951 Denison St, unit 18. It's in the Warden & Steeles Ave E area. (905) 475-2104. Talk to John Taylor. Their prices are good as well as their advice ... do quote over the phone.

 

Go to costco. Just got PS2s for my Lexus and they were less than 10% more more than tirerack. I also priced 315/25/19 PS2s for my TTS and the difference was very small. Also try 1010tires, but they are more expensive.

 

Another good place to purchase is Revolution Wheel and Tire www.revolutiontwheelandtire.ca . Call Paul Pillisch@705-719-4500.
They run the Yokohama track program and know Porsche cars/tire requirements well.
The Yoko track program is a good one. Revolution attends track events and has Advan AD07 tires mnounted on wheels. You pull in, Paul and Marcello put wheels/tires on your car and out you go...all courtesy of Yokohama. The program works..I purchased a set of Yokos. Price was reasonable, a little higher than US prices, however, the convenience factor made up for it.

 

Pneus Touchette in Montreal is pretty good.

Prices are comparable to Tire Rack.

what size tires do you need?

 

265/35 18. Currently I have the BFGoodrich g-force KDW NT ( i've seen them listed as KDW 2 on some sites) on the 4 corners.
The fronts are in decent shape, the rears however... lol

I just bought some budget Avon M500 225/35 and 265/35 from Tirerack for $100 each.

 

If you don't mind me being nosy.
Shipped to your door? How was the duty? Shipping costs?
Did you figure out what the price difference was between Canada and buying in the US. (shipping etc all added up).

The tires I was looking at were 70 dollars cheaper at tirerack than 1010.
Duty and shipping would eat up some of the difference. I'm curious how much difference in the bottom line.

 

Actually, the total duty/tax/brokerage fees ($20-30) are shown when you check shipping charges ($100) before checkout on the Tirerack website. So no other hidden charges when it arrives at your door. The Avons are Made in USA, so no duty. But others will have duty and they are about $20-30 total for 4 wheels if you play around on the website. The Cdn shops were not even close for these. Just go the website and check - you don't even need to login or submit info to see all the charges.
