Default Norden Autohaus Suspension Tech Night

Today I drove to Edmonton to attend the Tech event, 2 hour drive each way, on the way back the snow tried to kill me (The C4 performed great).

I learned a lot, I didn't have the best understanding of suspension, having mostly worked on engines for drag racing I didn't really worry about turning. Gord put on a great seminar and he covered a lot of stuff, I enjoyed the Pro's and Con's of lowering cars.

The TechArt widebody Boxster looked great and sounded amazing.

Where is this most awesome shop?

I can't think of any tuner in TO with this kind of set up. (Or am just living under a rock?)

Robinson,
How's it going under the rock?... Actually all kidding aside, they are the Porsche dealer in Edmonton. Grant Ericksen, the owner is a really nice guy. Looks like they put on a great event.

The rock's not too bad - it's the hard place that's buggin' me. : 0

Anyone thinking of starting a software company - call me - I'll talk you out of it.

Seriously though - this looks like an amazing shop and seemed like a cool event.

How do we get this happening here in TO??

Yeah I'm really impressed & interested by this. I'd love to hear what "the pros" have to say about various bits and pieces.

just debating the whole suspension tinkering question myself. Could you give us a summary of the basic pro's and con's?

Didn't Mantis do something like this last year?

Maybe Brad at Pfaff Tuning will put one on for us.

I'm probably not the best person for this, but I'll try to list everything I can remember.

Pro's of lowering:

- Asthetics.
- Lower center of gravity.
- Depending on how you lower it (Springs vs. Coilovers) you can improve your compression and rebound rates and with the higher end stuff you can adjust it.

Con's:

- Bump steer, Gord described the angle of travel of the steering rods and how that makes the wheels turn during suspension travel, he also showed ways of eliminating this problem.
- Doing damage to the bottom of the car.
- Less ride comfort.

There is probably a lot more I can't think of.
