a Porsche video that will make you weep

It didn't make me weep.
So what is the story here? It was done as a work of art? Or was it that it had to be crushed because it was some sort of non-production test bed. I am lost, can someone please explain?

all of the first r8s in canada were going to be crushed like this. they did the same to the rs4s. not sure why they have to do this. I would have taken one and promised to not complain about anything.

I'm sure this is not a Porsche-santioned process. All modern cars are designed to be largely recycled - or at least disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Just mashing up all those different materials into one blob is not "best practices" by any means.
This sure seems like a "roller" snapped up by a rather esoteric (and well heeled) artist who's done this for "art's" sake.
Sad to see - but certianly gets a reaction - and that's often the (only) point of contemporary art.

Funny you should mention that RK
For those of you who have downloaded the parts manual , on the site there is a section that describes every part and catagorizes it for recyling. The only car it doesn't seem to be there is the Sc and Carrera, further proof it was the only model designed to last forever. ....

Yeah - I heard some crazy stat that a huge percentage of 911's (Maybe p-cars in general) are still on the road.
A recent Excellence article mentioned this "designed to recyle" notion and went on to remind us that Porshe parts rarely end up in landfills anyway.

certainly not if they are driving by me .... or Jim for that matter .. Arnaud would look and say i'm not getting my hands dirty on that but I will pay someone else a lot of money to put it on my car .. Phill would look at it , stogey haning out and think .. I could detail that part . .. Greg would just want to beat the garbage truck to the dump , and not have a cell phone to tell us he won. Omar would recognise the parts as they have been in and out of his car ten times .. Zook would take it if you charged him a fortune after phill detailed it and wrote "Champion " on it ..
