Can a car with 5-pt harnesses be certified in Ontario for road use?
Can a car using racing seats & harnesses be safetied/certified for Ontario use? or does it have to use the original seat belts?
Looking at an old P-car in states with Corbeau seats & harnesses and the original belts won't work with those in there.
Thanks.

harnesses are illegal on the street, so no, I don't think it will get a safety for it. Depending on the type of seat mount, you can get bracket to put the seat belt receiver back into the car. Beside, harnesses are a PITA on the street anyway.

if the car came with them then yes u can use em( i.e. the ACR). Schroth makes multi-point belts on an inertia reel that are DOT approved....i drove with 5point sparco's all the time without issue (bright red ones too).
Legally speaking, for the purposes of a saftey, you should leave the 3-point harness installed and then add on ur harness on top of that. That way you havn't "removed factory saftey equipment"...there's no law about adding more stuff in.
the only thing canadian tire will check for when getting your form 2 stamped is the child anchor bolt on the rear seat (or to see that u have it..just buy it from them..it'll be easier that way) and that you have DRL's. If you have those 2 things they'll stamp it.
the saftey you can get from anywhere, same with the E-test

Im looking at a 944 turbo that is a semi DE car. Has Corbeau seats & harness and the original seat belts are removed from the car. The original buckle bolted to the original seat sliders and it won't bolt onto the brackets currently used for the Corbeaus.
Im just trying to see if it's certifiable with only harness when i register it in Ontario. If not, then it might not be worth importing this specific car as there are many choices on classifieds. Otherwise, Im sure one of our GTA specialists can fabricate some mount for the buckle to 'certify'.
Thanks!

Forget the reasons why... the bottom line is that, no you cannot register a car in Ontario with ONLY 5-point seat belts. Just get the factory belts and put the seat mount on one of the sliders or existing seat mounts. Very easy to do and will pass saftey...
I may even have the parts lying around as I recently stripped one of my 944 interiors.
cheers,
P
