Default Help needed in Montreal

Hey guys. I have a friend in Toronto who is considering a 944 turbo located in Montreal but he needs to have it checked out by someone reliable and reasonable. Can any of you suggest anyone?

Thanks in advance

Barry Gingrich, Unicorn Motorsports, 10310 Cote-de-Liesse, Lachine, 514-631-4244 is my usual and heartfelt recommendation.

Does he need a PPI or just someone to look at the car?

Hi Stephane,

I'm Alon's friend, who needs a pair of eyes in Montreal. I would probalby want someone trustworthy to take a physical look at the car, and help me guage on spending money on a PPI.

I'd rather not blindly spend the PPI money based just on what the seller is saying.

Thanks
Ash

I'm no Turbo expert but I'm sure me and Derek could go take a look That sounds fun. Derek knows his Turbo's very well.

What do you think Derek?

Ash, send me the info in PM if you want and I'll let you know if we can go.

Dinner with beers is in order if you buy it, lunch would be appropriate if you don't

Agreed - I'm in Montreal every few weeks, so lunch at the very least is in order.

Unicorn is closed right now -vacation. Ron Green at Campbell Garage is excellent (514 488-3031) as is Kapriyel Ferah 514 983-7805. Michel Galarneau is also a 944 expert at 450 431-0332.

Best,

So me and Derek went for a drive to Steven's place. He lives in a nice neighborhood.

The car looks really good. It's very clean, and the guy says he's got something like $26,000 in receipts!! Not a lot from him, they are all from the previous owner. So clutch is new, he says it's a "competition clutch"?? and it's very stiff.

Belts done less than 20,000K
Dash has no cracks!! ,the driver seat left bolster is torn, but the passenger seat is in mint condition.
He says A/C works, sunroof also, it's got an after market alarm system but he says the original one with the key works.
Koni yellow suspension all around and tires look almost new.
Wheels look good but have some curb rash.
You might notice that the front bumber is misaligned. I think it's been taken off before for a repaint, which it needs again, and it wasn't put back on correctly and it's missing the batwing.
Derek took it for a spin, I did not. I'll let him comment on the shifter, there is something odd about it.

I'll let the pictures talk for themsleves.
Sorry I've never been able to post pictures in the Canadian Forum???? So you'll have to click on each one

That's the seller washing the car, the car in the back is mine and not for sale

missing. Derek, what happenned during your test drive, did it fell off?

Here's a small video clip Video

Edit:

Ho ya, after reading Derek's post, I wan't to also say that it's a definite "go for it
". Sounds like a good deal and now you have some negotiating material.

The car runs well. It makes full boost early.

Oil pressure was perfect: High when cold, mid when hot.

Water temperature was steady and remained at the first white line.

We didn’t remove the intercooler lines to check for oil, but she didn't seem to be burning any. Sysgen had a better view of the exhaust as we drove away.

There were no noticeable oil leaks on the engine (cam tower seals, etc).

I didn’t check the coolant, but it looked clean through the new reservoir.

I forgot to take the oil cap off to check for any signs of blow-by/contamination.

From what I could see, the power steering system was not leaking.

I could not hear or see any sign of cracked exhaust headers or crossover pipe. The exhaust system sounded very nice.

Clutch is good, it does not slip. Shifter leaves something to be desired, but I think I think it's due to a worn shift linkage.

The suspension is firm and it is adjustable, as Sysgen stated. We couldn't jack up the car to check the ball-joints, bearings, etc. According to the owner everything is solid.

Brakes are strong and look like they are quite new.

Car does not vibrate at speed.

It is definitely a solid car. I believe that he maintained it well, and he says he has the records to prove it. If I was in the market, I would seriously consider it.
