Default Imported 997S / Daytime Running Lights

Just brought up my 2006 997S yesterday from the US. Process so far has been simple and painless. Now I have to get the RIV and form 2 process done.

Does anyone know of how to turn on the daytime running lights? I've heard it can be done through the PCM.

I've called the shop in Oakville (Mantis?) and they said they can't do it via computer.

Is my only choice the dealer?

First of all congrats on getting a great car! As for the DRLs, if you have sport chrono on your car, then i believe you can access a menu in the PCM that let's you turn them on.

Try posting the question in the 997 forum. I'm positive you can set them yourself via the PCM on sport chrono equipped cars; isn't there a settings menu?

I sent you this link via pm.

However if you sport chrono and the nav screen, simply go main>set>ind. memory>light with the key on and select drl on.

If you have to have it done at a shop, it's a quick, inexpensive relay and fuse that gets wired in, assuming it's the same wiring as a 996. Mantis did my 99 boxster for I think $60 or $80. I'm sure the dealership price will be at least double, if not 3 or 4x.

Ignition must be switched on for that option to become available.

Dealer charges $625 tax in for DRL's on a 996..........

My shop is $200.........

What I do is make the selling US dealer set them up as part of the deal.

adelaide,
can't remember if I mentioned this to you already via our email, but the US Porsche dealer charged me $180 USD for the DRL mod on my new 997 when I brought it up here. I can't believe they would charge $625 here!!???

On some 997's (without sport chrono) the dealer just plugs in their computer and voila...30 seconds later it is done. 996's and earlier cars cost what I posted......

Just so we are not unfairly bashing dealers again. I'm confused by your comparison.

Is your $200 price for the 30 second 997 job or the 996's and earlier mod then. And if your $200 is for 996's, what would be your price for the 30 second job that I paid $180US for??

Thanks.

$200 is to wire up a 996 "properly"..............my local dealer does not charge me for DRL activation with the computer on my cars.
