Wouldn't 5W-50 work just as well as 15W-50?
Since 15W-50 is so hard to find in Canada wouldn't 5W-50 work just as well?
My basic understanding of motor oils is the first number (5) is related to the viscosity ( ability to flow) when the oil is cold and the Last number (50) is the weight at normal operating temperature.
If thats the case wouldn't 5W-50 oil be a good subsitute, how far off can it be? After all some dealer ships are recommending the switch.

5W-50 will work just as well....
I use to run 0 W-30 in my Mustang Race car and had no problems....It actually made a few extra HP on the Dyno....Theory was there was less resistance for the crank to spin in the oil pan...

Warning, potential thread hijack...
After many years of using Mobil 1 at the track, I am going to try Redline, Royal Purple, and Amsoil ths year... My own research and discusions with other racers have made me believe that Mobil 1 isn't as good as it once was...
I will let you guys know my experience at the end of the year...
cheers,
Patrick
