Default Road Trip To Gatineau May 12th, any porsche's wanna tag along?

A bunch of us are driving down to gatineau because my friend found some good roads worth driving....and there's a casino that wants to take their money from them.

Anyone else interested in a not so short cruise down?

Probably leaving May 12th AM or friday the 11th in the PM and comming back on 13th.

If you go to the casino and win, treat yourself to the Baccarat restaurant there. Big bucks, but outstanding food and wine list.

There are plenty of road around here with curves and hills but many are bumpy.

Best would be Gatineau park, very smooth black top in the montains and stop by the belveder Champlain at the top, best vue in the valley. (warning : may be busy du to tourists)
There is "Chemin de la montagne" that follows the side of the Gatineau park, flat a litle bumpy but very curvy....

Ther are some good back roads as well. Bring your camera, the scenery is Fantabuless....

For longer rides, the 307 - 366 - 105 triangle or bigger is the 307 - 309 - 148 or the 105 - 366 to Otter lake is also nice.

The road to Tremblant is pretty nice, as are the roads in the Lanark Calabogie region..... could also stop in to see the new Calabogie Motorsport Park!!! UCR has an event there July 13-15....

Man... I used to drive the roads in Gatineau what seems like a century ago, in a modified 85 VW Cabriolet...

Don't forget to stop off at the Pink Panther... Does that place still exist? Oh and don't forget about finding a chip truck and get some Poutine and a Pepsi... Leave the Joe Louis and the Laurentide at the Depaneur...

cheers,
Patrick

If you want a nice drive to Ottawa (read fun) take the highway that is north of Hwy 7 (can't remember the number) which travels from Newmarket, through Bancroft & Griffith. You'll do about 130km/h tops but the road is full of twists, turns and elevation changes.

In Gatineau will you be checking out the local talent at Pigale's? I hear it's pretty good

The Gatineau park is my daily playground... For both driving, and mountaineering/training

Try this:

NEVER speed in the 70km/hr zone on highway 5 bridge between Ottawa and Hull until the zone is 100km/hr and then watch out for radars on the blind corners and blind hill tops as you travel north on HW 5.

Exit HW 5 (wave at the cop there checking the opposite direction!) at Old Chelsea rd.
Turn left at the stop to go over the HW and head into the village.

Speed limit is 50km! in the village (wave at the cop hidden on your left in the gravel parking across the church).

Stop in the village at the busy spot (on your right) where there is a general store with an old gas pump (6 parallel parking spots from hell) . The door next to the general store (same building) is a fabulous bakery - check it out - nice stuff for lunch or dinner or picnic . Nice patio next door to sit and relax too. Homemade ice cream across the street at La Cigale.

Continue on this road until you see a sign to turn left to "Camp Fortune" (may be 2-4 km). Take this Turn left.

After about 100 meters turn right up the small narrow parkway. THE SPEED LIMIT HERE IS 40km/hr. Pavement is near perfect. Nice corners. Hills. This is the best 4 km stretch in the park. There are a few turn offs along the way with parking lots for radars to sit at and a few blind corners. Scout up and down a few times. Pair up. Use cells phones... reception is VERY limited however. Remember if you are going 100km/h here (which is very doable) you are 60 over the limit! Turn right at the t-junction at the top of this stretch to get to the Champlain look out (about 2-4 km further up). This T-junction is somewhat "blind" until you get there - the bush on the extreme right of this T is often a speed trap.

In the summer I think some or most of the parkways in the Gatineau park are closed to cyclists on Sunday mornings only I think.

Sunset at Champlain is a classic. Expect cops on the way up and down. Lots of cars and motor bikes up there to watch the sunset. Great ride.

This is the major training spot for cyclists in the Ottawa area. The parkway to Champlain may be very very busy and I've had a few close calls this week not even speeding with so many cyclists; so please respect the cyclists and drive carefully.

cheers

Correction: Sunday mornings in summer are for cyclists only (no cars) on many Gatineau parkways.
Also, I was on Chemin de la montagne Nord today all the way to Luskville to do some training there. The road conditions are not very good at all. I took my jeep (rubicon) - doable in Porsche but bad quality roads = not to enjoyable.

amazing. my friend is still photoshoping the photo but i'll post em up when he's done. he's done i think 10 or so so far. Here are the main events of the trip with time indicated in distance out of toronto. What should have been a 4 hr trip became an 8 hr trip because of delays lol.

It was definitly not a simple road trip on the way out:
- 30 minutes out of toronto, the heat sheild falls off bob's catalytic converty necessitating a stop.

- 45 minutes out we observe that we have been tailed by a minivan for some time. Suspect undercover police officer.

- 1 Hr 20 minutes out OPP pulls over 1 of the Nissan skylines about 400 meters from a service stop. We pull in, enjoy a nice coffee and wait for the chick cop 2 stop giving mic the 3rd degree while listening in on our radio scanners to what she was saying. Apparently they were calling all our plates in because they thought our cars were stolen. Lovely. I dont have a front plate, i dont have any paperwork, and my car is not under my name its under my company name. ****.

- Cop has mick call all of us to meet her at the next exit. Stupid cops couldn't just drive unto the service station and inspect the cars there?

- In any case, we meet the 3 cruisers at the next station, I turn on my conning skill and two minutes later she comes back, apologizes for the delay and sends us on our way.

- 2 hrs into trip...the rest of the exhaust falls off the nissan truck...damnit..another delay.

- 2.5 Hrs into the trip Chris's skyline gets pulled over AGAIN. This time a guy cop. he's cool and tells us that the reason the skyline is getting flagged is that the original undercover cop called in the plate wrong so it came back as a silver acura instead of a gunmetal nissan. Furthermore, the chick cop from earlier on forgot to call off the search...which explains the total amount of OPP that were after us. The new cop clears everything up, chats for a bit, lets us go and tells chris 2 be careful in ottawa because highend cars are stolen all the time. Chris's reply: "Sweet! My car's considered High end". Cop Just shakes his head and laughs.

- 3 hrs out of toronto (what should have been 3 hrs is now about 7hrs because of all the delays) and the other skyline calls in reporting he's on reserve tank. This is bad. There is NO GAS on the stupid 416. I begin to hate ottawa. We find one station but the pumps shut off about 5 minutes before and the 16 year old working there says he can't turn them back on. Now I REALLY hate ottawa. Who doesn't have automated pumps in this day and age.

- Now on extremely low fuel, we follow the kid's directions into a small town and finally manage 2 find a gas station. Mick bitches because it isn't 94 octane. I smack him upside his head. We also attracted the attention of a local ottawa cop. I ask him for directions to the highway. he is rude. I dislike him.

- After driving thru the small town for another half an hr or so (apparently college chicks dig Porsches..who knew )....we make it to the 417 and moments later we're in ottawa at the parliment building. Finally. Hurrah.

- The rest was straight forward. Took some awsome pics. Went 2 gatineau mountain and ran the mountain all night.

- Return trip to toronto was uneventful except EVERY idiot kid with his girlfriend/wife/whatever wanted 2 race us. this was annoying as we just wanted 2 cruise home.

- Some jerkoff in his Honda Accord kept driving recklessly and tailgating mick's skyline who soon got fedup. Now bear in mind that he's been running ****ty fuel on a car running rich with the boost dialed below stock (7PSI). This jerk in the accord won't leave him alone so he dials up the boost (14PSI woo woo) and MASHES the gas and all 430HP turn him into an spec in the distance. All i can see is a huge could of black smoke in my rearview but apparently ALL THE CARBON BUILDUP and whatnot just dumped out of the exhaust onto this guy's car. Serves him right.

- I make it home in time for mother's day and get points for being a good son.

Great success.

Here's some preliminary photos:
