Help Save the 15 Year Rule!
As you may or may not be aware, there is a rule in Canada's Transport act which exempts a 15 year old car from meeting the DOT specifications and thus allowing it to be imported.
Transport Canada in one of its usually boneheaded moves, is looking to remove this law and thus prevent the import/street use of such wonderful cars as the: Nissan Skyline, Mazda RX-7, Toyota Supra, Ferrari F40 (i'm pretty sure these wern't street legalized here), and many other eurospec Porsche's and Ferraris that were never sold here to begin with.
So if you ever want to be able to drive that 996 GT3RS on the road in canada sometime in the future, or want to own that R34 Skyline GT-R VspecII then take a look at this link and please complain to your MP, MPP, Transport ministry, whomever.

Omar,
here's a template people could just cut and paste when contacting MPs and MPPs.
Dear Minister of Transportation,
I am emailing you today as a concerned citzen and as a member of the Imported Vehicle Owners Association of Canada. We are owners of vehicles imported to Canada that were not originally sold here.
A large number of our members have imported diesel vehicles that are capable of running on biodiesel, or Japanese Kei class cars that are very small and very efficient having a very low environmental impact. We are currently experiencing a number of issues with respect to both provincial government departments and federal government departments.

The above link will take you to a report our organization has prepared to combat a proposed (by the Province of British Columbia) rule change at Transport Canada regarding the importation of these vehicles. This report was prepared entirely by volunteers in our organization. Your consideration in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,

I don't have a problem with this.
Insofar far as it affects Porsche owners, it is a very minor inconvenience and expense.......and in some ways a value booster.
Extending the RIV requirements to 25 year old vehicles is not the end of the world. All it does is keep the cheaper cars (which are usually POS anyways.....most Porsche excepted however) subject to what would be uneconomical modifications to comply for importation. If you are buying a Ferrari F40 or Porsche 959 for some $350K CAD....another $20-50K of mods (I am just guessing here.......as I honestly have no clue what it could cost) is insignificant in the big scheme of things.
If the cheap 911 SC or Carrera in the US just got $2-3-4K more expensive to import as a result of an extension of RIV to 25 year old cars.......your car which is already in Canada just went up in value correspondingly.
Think about it.
The reason these guys are up in arms is that the crappy Japanese POS imports they are bringing in are potentially subject to onerous compliance costs in the future.

YYC....not disagreeing with you...but i don't think there's a way to import vehicles of a RHD nature sans the 15 year rule...hence the skyline owners/future owners up in arms. If there's a way to do it without the 15 year rule..PM me and i'll send all the people to you to import their cars.

Omar.....I agree with you in that regard and can see their point.....FWIW, and you probably know this but others her might not so I'll post it, there are provincial requirements as well regarding OOP cars...and especialy Japanese product. Being 15+ years old is not a free pass.....
Our shop has refused to OOP more than few Soarers and Skyline's etc.....because of these regs.
Here's the Alberta regs......which already make these cars uneconomical to import IMHO.....interesting reading.

Have you had a chance to beat one of these things around? they're terribly fun cars to drive, especially when they're beefed up
