Question Refueling on the "wrong" side?

My 944 has the fuel cap on the right side, and when refueling, I often drive with the flow of other cars, meaning I have to stretch the hose over the hatch to pump gas. But today a guy approached me, and said this is illegal, and he saw a guy paying $500 ticket for this. Anybody heard of such a law in Ontario? I tried searching the highway traffic act, but didn't find anything relevant. Could it be a municipal law?

might be a question for Brad but I have NEVER heard of this. I though they were making the hoses longer for this.

I remember seeing once a post that looked like it was written by a cap. I wonder if he still checks this forum, and wanted to share his opinion?

ah that is from my collection of bits I have fixed .. this weeks selection includes the inside of my door where the re-enforced metal got ripped from years of opening and closing the door. This is the view from insde with the door panel removed. A re-enforcing set of plates from pelican and a new door check fixed it up nice ... ignore the blue crap , thought the creaking just needed greasing , then I checked .. uh oh ... I have aleady displayed the cut in half oil cap ..... need one for next week ...

Default Im Calling BS too.....

I work in the fuel industry, and there is no such regulation......Hoses are the length they are so they can reach the wrong side if needed....

And it was my understanding that the fuel cap is one the right so that you're not in traffic while you're filling up roadside. One viewing of those in-car cam videos from the the stopped cop cars where the pulled over car gets sideswiped by a truck and I'm happy to have this unusual feature.

speaking of silly laws: I used to live in Washington State, and would often drive to Oregon. It turns out it is illegal in Oregon (or was at that time?) for a driver to pump gas him/herself !!! Only a gas station attendant is allowed to do it.

Yup.
The gas station dudes do make allowances if you are riding a motorcycle or driving a car worth 5x their annual wage.

New jerswey is the same way.

Did you ever notice that 99% of the gas pumps in Ontario don't have the little tab below the triger to hold the trigger open? You have to manually hold it to fill the tank or you can use the gas cap to prop the triger open (I know the proppoing is illegal in NY state).

I thought the placement of the fuel cap was so that the car could be fueled in the pits when it pulls in on a track that runs clockwise. As NASCAR run counterclockwise, many American cars (such as my Pontiac Grand Prix) have the filler on the left.
