Fair enough... I am sure we would all go through that red light in the desert at one time or another!!

Of course now that I have stirred the pot, I am probably going to get a speeding ticket this weekend. Then I will change my mind right? I will keep you guys posted if that happens...

cheers,

I leave you guys alone for a couple of hours and look what happens!

It's all about the insurance.
The $110 ticket is "pay as you play". I have no problem with this as manage to avoid tickets by being aware. I drive 1,000km/week and have not had a speeding ticket in 5 years.
My concern is getting screwed by the insurance company because they can.
This year they already denied me collision without a appraisal.
My snowmobile was pushing $1,000 because they can.
I couldn't even get insurance on my boat.
I got rid of my sled and boat, but never my p-car.
Mad? F... right.

So a father and daughter are driving home late one night, and there's hardly a car on the street. They approach a red light and the girl asks, "Dad, why did you stop at the red light? There's no one around to see you...". And the Dad replies, "Integrity".

Pretty sappy, eh? Not sure why I wanted to share that...someone needs to stop me

Rod,

Take spiff's advise. Check box 3 and request a trial date and show up early. Speak with Crown and see if something is offered. If the trial will run then make sure you are prepared !!! I can tell you don't hold your breath that the officer won't show. Court is part of the job and I've seen guys loose days for not showing in court. An HTA ticket is not worth it.

I only tried to give the best advise I could with the information you provided at the start of this thread. You did state you blew threw at 50 km....

I cant provide leagal advise but some of what I've read here is good sound advise.

As I have posted before, a speed zone, be it a 60 or 100 ,is there for a reason as is a stop sign. The HTA is approx. 468 pages of rules.

I don't blame you for not being happy about a ticket, who would be. I can tell you I wasn't when I got them as a misguided youth. So fight it if you must, and good luck

As for "neunneundrei" if it was my ticket it would be for careless driving.....kidding

Brad,
I appreciate your advice.
I'm going to drop by the court on the way to work in the morning.
I have to at least try.
Rod
BTW Who told you I was a misguided youth?

That was classic! Thanks for adding some levity to this thread!!!

FWIW, Rod isn't a misguided youth. Well, misguided perhaps - he's a crotchety old fart...

(just kidding Rod!)

Of course, Brad, you'll remember me for my sense of conscience and humour the day you pull my a$$ over, right?

Hey, you're not posting to this thread via the computer in your car, are you? Just thought of that...

Good bunch of folks these Rennlisters....

There is another possible defense to the "stop sign" ticket. In court - ask the officer how he arrived at the location he was in when he saw you blow through it. (perhaps don't use the term "blwo through!) ; )

Ask him how long he was there for before he saw you.

If for the first point his route DID NOT include USING the sign you're accused of missing, then there's "reasonable doubt" as to whether it was clearly visible at the time you went through it.

If he DID go that route, through the stop sign - but was parked at the "observing location" for some time - it's further possible to suggest a "reasonable doubt" that the sign was visble, since it could have become obscured in some way in the interim. (his parking and you going through)

Might try this approach is the regular stuff; cop no-show, charter arguement for "unreasonable delay till trial" etc doesn't work.

Went in today to make an appointment with the prosecutor.
They will mail me a date.
I'm hoping to work it out then. Someone mentioned having it taken off of the traffic act / points.
I don't care about the fine too much.
If he can't help me I can see winning it court.
My word against the officer's. Good luck
I'll keep you posted.

It's BEATYA

Believe it or not, I still have that plate (though not on my p-car). I had it on my first car that I bought - a 1990 VW GTI 32V - of course I got tickets then (not now )

Mind you, there's not too many Red C4Ss with Fikse's running around the GTA
