Advice for soon-to-be Porsche owner
I am new to rennlist and I am looking for a 90 - 92 Coupe or Targa. Just wondering what sources locally could provide a quality vehicle. Have also toyed with the idea of buying from US with our strong $$. I have seen a few nice cars at www.victorymotorcars.com. Has anyone purchased a vehicle there and imported into Canada?

I moved from Houston to Toronto last year in September and have been several times to VICTORY MOTORCARS while searching for my 911. They have a fairly impressive collection of cars on www.autotrader.com but barely 15 in their showroom; I assume that a lot of cars that they advertise for belong to private individuals (but not sure). I have also read on the Rennlist 993 forum both positive and not so positive comments about VICTORY MOTORCARS.
As far as importing into Canada, it is possible. Because I moved from the US to Canada, I was lucky that I did not have to go through the RIV (Registry of Imported Vehicles) and the modifications that they require (daytime running lights, baby seat anchor,...) in order to register the car. On top of that, I did not pay any duty and PST (or maybe it was GST, one of the two anyway). But if you, as a Canadian resident, decide to import a 911, be prepared to deal with RIV and pay for the modifications and taxes. And at the end of the day, your car has an odometer in miles, which may eventually affect its resale value. Bottom line, it is possible if you are patient and ready to deal with the paperwork.
Good luck with your search.

Well since you haven't stated where you are, we can only assume you're at the center of the know universe , that's ok cause I don't know Toronto. If I were looking for a used p-car well past warranty period I'd definately be shopping in the US now. Lots of detailed posts here about importing. Resale US vs. CDN car? Man the car's over 15 years old. I'f it hasn't taken it's big depreciation hits by now when will it?

I had a discussion with my appraiser this weekend.
He is seeing late 80's 911 coming to Canada in the low teens USD.
A customer brought in an 88 911 with 70K miles, original owner, mint condition, for $12,000 USD out of Las Vegas.
The prices here are inflated and are about to crash he feels.

You might want to check out the Porsche club (PCA) Mart classifieds.
