This is a very interesting thread. Let me add to the debate.
Based on our economy's health vs the US, a CDN $ at par with US in the next couple of years, doesn't seem like such a far fetched idea. I think the flood gates for all kinds of goods will really open if that happens...that's NAFTA for you.
Other manufacturers have adjusted their prices down a bit because of the stronger loonie, by simply not raising or by increasing the content of their product when they launch a new generation. THe old price/value relationship. Eventually, Porsche Canada is going to have to find a happy middle ground; maybe bring in the extra US used cars to satisfy demand, fully federalize them (Km/h speedos, etc...) and offer a better CPO warranty and maintenance package then you would get if you shopped US.
About the realities of financing a US; I too have a large line of credit at an interest rate below what any dealer or bank could offer. And Porsche has a lease rate of 7.9... not too competitive, even old Mercedes will lease out their CPO cars at 4.9.

Actually I bet that what PCCL will do is modify the specs somewhat so that you have to buy an exhorbitantly expensive, or even unobtainable part to obtain the necessary Canadian certification.

This is what Ferrari has done. You cannot get 355 bumpers for example (and they were about $20K installed as well)....just to name one scenario.

It burns my butt when I see US guys quoting 'used' 997's for $65,000-$70,000US $ in these forums. I bought my 1st p-car from DTFC Oct 04 and don't regret it for a second. When I brought up the exchange issue with the salesman he said the PCNA actually subsidized Canadian price which I still find hard to believe. What I have found is that if you check prices say down under or in N.Z. its close to $200,000 for the same car. Maybe we should be thankful!!

GTS 5 speed.....heh......good luck bud.....you and me both. We had about 15 GTS's in total come into Canada over 1992-95 when I was the Porsche dealership sales manager.......about 10 were auto's.

Willhoit in the US is buying all of them for big bucks and reselling them for very high asking prices.

I see they always have a few. They are impeccable. Mostly autos . . . but they are all very low mileage. I did see an auto for sale in the Auto Trader in Toronto but they wanted big $$$. I know you are not in favor of buying US cars but in this case there might not be much choice. The guy my buddy bought his 968 off of bought it at Wilhoit.

Once you drive one, you will realise that they are NOT "Fat & Lazy" 0-60 in 5.7 and top speed of 171mph. As for handling, you have to drive one to know what one is talking about. You will love driving a 928, it is an addiction...You have been warned.
