High Theft Risk Premium Surcharge - Insurance
So got a letter from my insurer (CAA), saying that a $1500 premium will apply, and I can get a discount of:
- 100% if I purchase an after market engine immobilizer that meets certain criteria (professionally installed, can not be seen, Code/PIN sequence or FOB to start the vehicle)
- 50% if I have an engine immobilizer that doesn't meet the criteria, or an engine cut off sequence, or 2FA to start the vehicle
- Lastly, 33% if I put on a steering wheel lock, brake pedal lock, wheel and tire lock; or a retractable bollard, or a key fob signal blocking device (faraday device).
Has anyone looked into immobilizers??

Seems like these are the best options available. Man this is annoying. I keep my car in a garage and use a faraday box. Further, the 911 isn't anywhere near the top X vehicles stolen, ever. Wonder if the folks driving Honda Civic's or CRVs (top cars stolen) are being hit with $1500 or if this is just another cash grab.

Yes, Immobilizers are the way to go. Practically unbreakable. Expensive but how much do you value peace of mind? I never worry about car theft anymore. They also come with added features like hijack alarms too.

I have 1 ghost install and 2 IGLAs. Ghost is actually a rebrand of IGLA with a much higher price tag.
So, all of the features are available in both systems. It’s actually the same manual. Anti-hijack AS/S disable and about 30+ other functions are available as part of the system.

Time to look at a different insurance provider, this high theft risk premium is total BS. Try Co-operators

Anyone know what this means?
"That Vehicle requires a staul cut to immobilize the vehicle correctly, with that being said there are not many shops that don't this as it is not necessary to do on the installation guide however with our experience and testing those vehicles if this is not done or ignored your vehicle will still be able to get started as someone tries multiple times to crank over the vehicle."
A Staul cut? This was for IGLA...they want ~$1700+tax. Looks like there is something called CAN-Phantom as well.
