I was lucky with my Son (who has always been years ahead of his actual age). He graduated from U of T accounting and started working downtown almost 2 years ago. We had to move his Grandma closer to us, so he was able to scoop up her 2 bedroom apt in North York for $925/month. He just made the CPA CFE national honour role, so at 23 he is on a pretty clear path to being a high earner. My daughter is in a more ‘normal’ earnings stream finishing Queen’s English next month and going to Teacher’s College in the fall. We will likely have to help her with her first house and suspect that she will live at home until her later 20’s. However, to be honest, I’d love them to both live at home until they got married 😁

We're in media in Canada which is always like pushing a rock up a hill but quite buoyant this year so far. I'd say things are looking up for what we do in 2024...there have been a few rough years of late...

Mom: tell me where you are every day, video chat me, let me know your schedule.
Dad: great , you won't cost me anything for a whole month.

My daughter gets her condo and education paid for thats it thats all. Rest is all up to her. I didnt treat my parents like an ATM and I wont allow her to either. Some lessons in life need to be learned via sacrifice - its a fantastic teacher!

A guy I know asked his very wealthy friend. How did you come to get so rich he asked? His wealthy friend replied, ‘the old fashioned way, I inherited it’.

Y'all are buying your kids condos flat out as in no mortgage etc. or paying their monthly condo payments? My intention would be to help them out with a down payment but the rest is on their dime - I never got a nickle to get started and I have no issue, nor had any issues with that. My first condo was 3X my salary so I'm not sure if that ratio still works or not.

When I was starting out, times were much easier. My cohort didn't need anything financially. I started a job, got married and 3 months later moved into my own house off the danforth. Too much competition for jobs and houses has made the world a sh***y place. Nowadays you might not get into engineering school with 95%. I got in with 70

We pay for school and ‘reasonable’ expenses while in school. We gave them a choice of going away and we would cover housing etc. or staying local and getting a new car to commute. Both chose the car - to me it was about the same cost and I actually was hoping that they would choose the car so it would eliminate them having a car payment when they graduated. Both got summer jobs. My son also worked 20 hours per week at the bank when he was in school.
I feel for kids these days. Without help, most are looking at home ownership in their 30’s thanks to crazy housing prices.
