This always confuses me too... i think it's related to not letting insurance companies find out you're taking your car to the track but I'm not sure. I've never once seen insurance companies spying at the track, but never say never.

You take the plate mounting bracket off of the bumper? Aren’t you afraid of stripping the plastic mounting holes?

It happened to me at a UCR charity track day. There used to be a program called Driven 2 Smile. We'd take special need children around Mosport for a morning session. Low speed lapping. Sometimes some of the parents would be given rides. One of the parents I gave a ride to worked in the insurance industry. BTW I removed my plates that morning.
