I suppose I could post this in other forums/sub-forums but thought I'd ask some of my fellow Canadians first...

I am finalizing the sale and transfer of a 2017 991.2 C2S but the seller, whom I trust, has extended an offer from PCA to extend the warranty. This would have to be completed by the seller prior to the sale and transfer of the vehicle. The warranty would then be transferrable to me. The additional term would cover me for another 3 years for around $6k CND.

I have had the car PPIed with no horrible discoveries. I have all the service records and recalls/TSBs addressed. The car has 43k KMs but in researching RL, do know that things invariably break. I do worry about potential PDK, water pump and other issues and recognize that this extended warranty is insurance. It may let me sleep better at night since I do plan on owning and driving the car for the foreseeable future!

Any pitfalls or experiences with this type of opportunity? Given the warranty product, the vintage of the car, is the pricing out to lunch or about right for Porsche?

I just bought the two-year extended warranty from Porsche Canada for my 2020 C4...cost was $4k Canadian, or $2k a year. So $6k for three years is right. The original owner can buy the Porsche extended warranty (same coverage as CPO BTW) with no inspection required if they have had all scheduled services completed by the dealer...warranty then transfers to a new owner.

I just re-upped my CPO 991.2 last month - same price - ~$2k per year. They replaced my water pump, and fixed a GPS issue (replaced a bunch of parts) under CPO last year.

For comparison, I extended the warranty on the 2019 RRS supercharged last year and for 2 years it was over $6k. They replaced the rear differential this year and they said it would have been $9k without the warranty.

Doing the same with mine as my CPO runs out October 15th/2024. Service advisor suggested purchasing/extending CPO at the same time as annual service to avoid the "inspection" charge. As everyone has mentioned, $4K/2 years is the current rate. From what I've been told, CPO coverage can extend until the car's 15th birthday. My quick calculations suggest $22k to cover the time between new car warranty expiration and it's 15th birthday. Will the car need $22K in warranty repairs in that time? THAT is another question.

Don't Forget about the massive markup on Service that you are "expected" to do at the dealer to keep your warranty valid.

Thanks Tim... your parting question is something I will have to consider after extended ownership. For the timebeing, 3 years for $6k seems reasonable (for a new-to-me car).

Good point... I'll have to better understand what is "expected" and what is acceptable. I am meeting with my local Porsche service advisor next week to make acquaintances and understand these nuances.

let us know how it goes! im sure they will require oil changes. Brake fluid plus a major service done by them.

I was told oil changes can be done on your own. I keep the receipts and log any maintenance.

I think major maintenance needs to be done at a dealer before the renewal though, too bad that cannot be DIY.

which dealer told you this? Multiple GTA dealers insisted that oil changes are done at dealership.
