"We do not install customer supplied parts" - is this the norm?
Thinking of replacing the water pump and expansion tank (and possibly the pulleys depending on condition) for my '99 996 at 60k miles.
I reached out to Gtek for a quote on their labour for the work, and they said "unfortunately we do not install customer supplied parts since we cannot warranty the work if we don't supply the parts."
I was hoping to source the majority of the parts from the Sunset Porsche Parts to save a few hundred dollars on parts so this was a bummer.
Is this the norm, and I should expect similar responses at different shops?
No issues with the car at the moment, just doing preventatitve maintenance.

Depends on the shop, some will say you can provide the parts but they will provide zero warranty , which i have seen as more common. That said, i am not shocked that in today's economy everyone wants to take as much of your money as they can and want to put their marked up parts in your car.

Hunter will install customer supplied parts but only if they are new and oem quality.
I've ordered parts from germanparts.ca then brought to Brent.
It's not fair for shops to install crap parts then be held accountable when they fail.

Absolutely agree with the second part.
I'm planning on getting all Porsche parts from Sunset so hopefully won't be an issue with Hunter.

I own an insta print company and charge people more if they want us to use their supplied paper. Don't need the hassle of crap paper messing up my machines.

With that policy I guess they don't need more business.
I have supplied my own parts to numerous shops over the years (Porsche and Audi).
If a shop outright refuses to work on the car for that reason then I know that's not the right place for me.
Where abouts do you live?

Depends on the shop. I know one shop in my area that does not accept costumer provided parts.
The two shops that I go to accept any parts that I bring, but they don`t warrant any of the work because they did not supply the parts.

Being able to supply parts is a bonus to me, but not something I expect any shop to do all of the time. I suspect selling labour alone would not be sustainable in most instances if your labour rates are at market. I’d rather have the shop mark them up fairly and be responsible for the entire job. I don’t bring my own buns to McDonalds either 😀
