So, now they are stealing cars from inside the garages in our neighbourhood! Happened twice in the last week. Has anyone installed an alarm or immobilizer recently that they would recommend?

Coincidentally, I just had our entire house updated with new sensors and cameras, including, a sensor on the garage door. I accidentally tripped it last week when I didn't know the alarm was armed and I pulled into the driveway and put the car in the garage...the siren started blasting and the alarm company called me so it works

Not sure the actual equipment, but we use Avante who did the install.

Garage door sensors are fairly common in our neighbourhood and I’m not in a high end area by any stretch of the imagination. At a minimum if someone is stealing your car you’ll hear the house alarm going off.

Thanks guys. I actually used to have the garage doors alarmed but the company that replaced our doors buried the wires. Maybe I’ll see if we can find them and reconnect them. We have cameras including in the garage…

Suggest adding a mechanical
locl to your garage and setting the opener in lock mode to prevent opening via keypad

That's exactly what I did. You can even install a lock on the garage door lock to further prevent anyone from opening it should they gain access to the garage (that's what that hole on the horizontal bar is for. Keep the keys, all of them, far away from the garage, and locked up. If they gain access to the house, they'll know where to look for the keys to the car.

Also, a camera in the garage, not tied to a security system, but logs all activity and notifies me and my wife.

i have this setup ,is not ideal so i gave up on it. i was used to hitting the garage door opener as im leaving jump in my car and leave..

Now i have to leave the house walk to the garage door unlock , walk back hit the button get in the car and leave ... not difficult , but i just found it a pain in the *** and kind of made the garage door opener convenience useless.

im considering a bolt on a solenoid to lock with a button next to my garage door opener

How about hiding the key pad and then putting a key pad that is visible but hook it up to activate lights and a siren if anyone pressed a key.

I like the idea of a lock on a solonoid. You could also just kill the power to the garage door opener by using a controlled outlet.

My Jack shaft opener has a solenoid operated lock, but my other 2 doors have standard openers. I’m not sure how the thieves are getting in to the garages.

i would imagine they are intercepting garage door opener signals and stealing the cars that do not have the extra level of security ... or forcing there way into garages that have side doors.

I'm trying to find out from neighours how they are getting in the garages. They nabbed an Audi RS7 from down the street. I had always thought that Audis were difficult to steal...

I have the same and I'm not sure how useful that lock is. I don't think you could even pry a jackshaft opener up without the lock and if you can bypass the code it would also release the lock. It does make a loud noise when opening and closing though.
