Any Ontario Drivers run without a front plate?
Hi all,
Recently took delivery of my 718 GT4. Holy crap I love the thing. But really. The front plate is crushing me. I’m debating taking it off and risking it as it seems like the ticket is $110 and doesn’t affect insurance. Anyone run without a plate and risk it? What’s the experience been?

I have run with no front plate for 3 years and luckily have had no issues at all.
But you are incorrect in your comments on insurance.
Years ago they didn't care... you could have 10 plate tickets and they were treated like parking tickets.
But these days all insurance companies consider a front plate ticket a moving violation.
It took some digging but I verified this with my current and previous company.
I will continue to have no front plate but once I get a ticket I will fight it and then use the Carbonio plate mount (that I keep in my frunk for now).

To me it makes little sense to give the popo a reason to pull you over. In Halton there is no wiggle room, my wife got pulled over for having a plate cover on her front plate.
I have run without a front plate in the passed and got pulled over and was given a warning that I had to return to the OPP station to show that I had put the plate back on.
YMMV

I hate front plates. About 15 years ago I ran with no front plate on my 997.1 shortly after getting it. Got pulled over twice in the same week in the GTA then haven't bothered trying again. One of the times York region cop was going opposite direction, I saw in the rearview he threw on his lights, swung around cutting off traffic, just to pull me over for the missing plate. Both times I got a warning because I was 'honest' and told them I didn't have it on because I didn't like the way it looked. I recall Ford was going to get rid of them, then the police chiefs convinced him with the BS they need it for catching criminals.

It really all depends, on the 911 I dont have one now but I am expecting someone to pull me over and ask me about it.
On my Golf R I haven't had one in 2 years with no issues.
On my previous car which was a wide body flat black "look at me" kind of car I got a ticket within 30 minutes on my first attempt to not have a plate.
I know people who have tried the stickers and gotten away with it, while others got tickets.
I think it is entirelty up to your luck and other circumstancial stuff. They will likely tack that on to any other infraction they are pulling you over for.

I ran without a front plate on my 991 GTS for 2+ years and had zero issues. Then I got 3 tickets in a 2-month span, with the last one including a threat to impound my vehicle due to lack of compliance. Since then I've had it mounted when in town as I don't need the hassle.
Depends on your area too... in Toronto (downtown) they are pretty sensitive and even more so in Markham.

981 Boxster and I have run two seasons without it with no issues. I was under the impression that it did not go on your insurance as a violation. That changes things for me if it is true. I'll confirm with my agent when I call to add coverage back on. It looks SO much better with it off......but I don't need higher rates.

Depends where you are and how **** they are about those things ..... I have a really tinted front and back plate on all my cars and wasn't pulled over for over five years , Then twice in a month downtown TO , both gave me a verbal warning and let me go and when I asked the one cop what gives ? he said they have been told to crack down on tinted windows and plates and all other minor infractions.
Also I lived in the city long enough to know the police always like to make their presence known in the spring to make up for the other 3 seasons where they mainly poke the pooch

Yep our tax dollars hard at work .... Yet scooters . e-bikes etc can run wild with very little or no recourse from the police let alone insurance / plates / license ...nada and the motorist always gets punished.
