Default Gas In New Zealand

I'm currently in New Zealand on a bit of a holiday.
The roads here would be incredible to drive in a 911
but thats not really the topic Here.

There's an interesting gas station concept here.
A gas station with no kiosk or structure.
Just pumps.
So alot less overhead.

No chips, pop, gum, lotto, coffee or empoyees manning the store.

You pull in, prepay by credit or debit, fill up and leave.

Price per litter is 20 to 30 cents less per litre than the other stations... Mobil, B/P etc.

Would this work in North America?

So basically Costco gas? These style of stations are common in Europe in smaller areas as well. You might have a coffee vending machine and cold drinks

Saw these in Italy in congested city areas where space is at a premium

Convenience store is where profits are made. Very little is made on gas since the margins are tiny. So I can’t see how this can be a working business model here.

I’m not even sure Costco makes a profit at the gas station in some areas. Might just break even or have a slight loss but make it up through memberships

It does. You slip your credit card into the slot at the pumps. It saves the hassle of standing behind countless people buying over priced junk food and lottery tickets. Same thing in Europe except it also takes bills and the stations are un-manned.

Exactly
pull in
prepay
gas up
leave
And 20 cents cheaper per liter

I love American pumps that ask you for a zip code or pin/zip code.

I haven't done a US road trip for a dozen years or so. Do they still require you to present yourself at the kiosk/counter to prepay instead of just inserting your card at the pump?

All this inconvenience is offset by cheap gas

Use the numbers from the postal code for the credit card billing address and put 2 zeros at the end. It works. eg M5W 1E6 = 51600

The other good thing I've noticed here is
There are lots of CLEAN public washrooms everywhere
no shortages of places to go wee
